From a Washington Post report:
The ex-wife of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Eric Greitens accused him in court documents Monday of knocking her down, taking away her cellphone and keys, physically abusing their children and repeatedly threatening suicide if she did not publicly support him during the 2018 scandal that led to his resignation as governor.
Sheena Greitens, who now lives with their children in Austin, where she works as a university associate professor, described for the first time publicly what she says she experienced at the end of their marriage, in documents filed as part of an ongoing child custody dispute in Missouri state court.
“In early June 2018, I became afraid for my safety and that of our children at our home, which was fairly isolated, due to Eric’s unstable and coercive behavior,” she wrote in the filing, which was obtained from Boone County Circuit Court. “This behavior included physical violence toward our children, such as cuffing our then three-year-old son across the face at the dinner table in front of me and yanking him around by the hair.”
As Media Matters has documented, Greitens political return was fueled by Steve Bannon from the start:
On January 6, less than an hour after police secured the Capitol, Greitens was on his Real America’s Voice show validating the grievances of the rioters, saying, “There exist strong and unanswered questions about statistically impossible election results,” repeating debunked election fraud conspiracy theories, and blaming the left for waging a “full-scale war on the law.”
In the months leading up to the attack on the Capitol, Greitens had pushed election fraud conspiracy theories and identified with the angry Trump supporters who wanted the election results to be overturned in Congress on January 6.
Days after Election Day, he interviewed serial misinformer John Solomon to preview his “investigations'' into supposed fraud. Greitens promised his audience, “We hear you and we’re on your side,” and introduced an investigative partnership between Solomon’s Just the News website and Real America’s Voice to “independently review the returns from a select number of counties in the most contested swing states.”
Bannon championed the candidacy of disgraced former Senate candidate Roy Moore in Alabama until the bitter end. He seems poised to do the same with Greitens.
