Guatemalan government official sanctioned by State Department discusses conspiracy theories on white nationalist Stew Peters' podcast

Ángel Pineda, Guatemala’s secretary general of the public ministry, appeared on the podcast of white nationalist Stew Peters to discuss what Peters described as “the largest child sex trafficking ring on planet Earth,” which the host said the “United States government and officials inside of the United States government are operating” in order to bring Guatemalans to America.

Pineda is a leader of Guatemala’s prosecutor’s office. The U.S. State Department and the European Union have sanctioned him for “obstruct[ing] investigations into acts of corruption by interfering in anticorruption probes” and for being “responsible for, engaging in, providing support to, or benefitting from, actions that undermine democracy, the rule of law or the peaceful transfer of power in Guatemala,” respectively.

Peters is a white nationalist who has pushed the racist “great replacement” theory, claiming that there is a “white replacement operation taking place in America” and that “Jews control Media”; promoted Holocaust denial; and called Adolf Hitler a “hero.” He has also spread a variety of conspiracy theories, including those related to Pizzagate, QAnon, and COVID-19.

While introducing Pineda, Peters lauded him for having “stood up to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society” as well as Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, whom Peters referred to as “Anthony ‘the Jew’ Blinken” and “Alejandro ‘the Jew’ Mayorkas.”

The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, a nonprofit that helps refugees, was cited by the 2018 Tree of Life synagogue shooter as justification for his mass slaughter.

Peters then asked Pineda, “Does the Israel-run fake occupied U.S. government have a gun barrel to the head of Guatemala and saying, ‘Send us all of these people’?”

Pineda responded by suggesting that “people from the government in the United States and also in Guatemala” and several nongovernment organizations were involved in a human trafficking pipeline from Guatemala to Texas, and he credited “your friends from the different podcasts and the different independent press” for sharing supposed information about it.

Peters said it’s his opinion that “the United States government and officials inside of the United States government are operating the largest child sex trafficking ring on planet Earth, and they’re harvesting those subjects, those victims, those children, from Guatemala. They’re picking them out like they're going shopping for shoes.”

Pineda said his office is investigating claims that Guatemalan children are being trafficked into the United States and criticized Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo, claiming he was obstructing Pineda’s work.

Peters asked if “there is a United States government operation to illegally import and traffic children from Guatemala,” and Pineda suggested that he had been threatened for investigating.

At the end of the interview, Peters claimed that “these pedophiles who are trafficking these children are about to be exposed by you and by your department and by your office and by your government.”

The idea that the government is seeking to purposefully bring in noncitizens and for a nefarious purpose is a tenet of the white nationalist “great replacement” conspiracy theory, which holds that “elites” are seeking to replace residents with migrants.

Peters has hosted multiple American lawmakers on his show.

Besides Peters, other “friends from the different podcasts and the different independent press” Pineda has relied on include the conspiracy theory network Infowars, which he appeared on the day before to make similar claims. During that interview he lauded a fellow Infowars guest, saying he “understands our legal system better than … other journalists here in Guatemala, reporting from Guatemala.”
