CAVUTO: In all serious, what I think happens is then they -- they've learned in their civics how this Washington game goes and they don't like it.

SANTORUM: I agree with that. And that's why it's very important for Republicans to fight. And including, potentially, having a showdown about a year from now on funding the government. I mean, Republicans insisting on cutting spending dramatically --

CAVUTO: And shutdown the government?

SANTORUM: You have to set the predicate pretty --

SANTORUM: effectively if you're going to do that. But I think that's - they're looking for that kind of fight out of this dog.

CAVUTO: That didn't work out so well for Republicans last time.

SANTORUM: It didn't work but we didn't have Fox News back then. And I say that in all seriousness. We didn't have Fox News. You had Rush Limbaugh. You had -- you didn't have the internet, you didn't have the ability to get a message out. The Tea Party movement --

SANTORUM: Yeah, everybody's going to hear what's going to be at stake a year from now, and it's different. We were not in the dire financial situation that we are
