Fox Host Contradicts NRA Lie Hyped By Fox, Admits Clinton Won't Abolish Second Amendment

Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade admitted Hillary Clinton “has never said she wants to abolish the Second Amendment,” contradicting a debunked myth pushed by the National Rifle Association that Clinton wants to confiscate Americans’ firearms. Fox hosts and frequent guests in recent days have claimed that Clinton “is really adamant about carrying on this goal of taking firearms from Americans” and that she is “in support of and stands for gun confiscation.” Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has also parroted the NRA’s lie, claiming at the NRA’s national convention that Clinton “is ‘the most anti-gun’ candidate ever to run for office.” Clinton has repeatedly said that gun rights can be protected while still implementing gun safety measures such as universal background checks. From the May 23 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

BRIAN KILMEADE (CO-HOST): So over the last couple of days, Donald Trump appeared in front of the NRA and he got a full-blown endorsement. Karl Rove even pointed out this is extremely important if he's going to be successful in the general to have the NRA behind him. And Hillary Clinton thought that would be an opportunity to come forward and talk about how irresponsible Donald Trump is.

[...]

STEVE DOOCY (CO-HOST): And one of the things that Donald Trump said on the last couple days was “Hillary wants to abolish the Second Amendment through her Supreme Court nominees.”

AINSLEY EARHARDT (CO-HOST): But yet saying she still has her security detail.

DOOCY: We had somebody on earlier who said, “You know what? Why doesn't Hillary give up her security detail and then have it go to a school to protect the children who really need protection?”

KILMEADE: But she has never said she wants to abolish the Second Amendment. So that's -- Donald Trump is going too a little extreme and I think she's going to the extreme, saying “Donald Trump's America will have everyone shooting everybody.” So you play it as you want to play it. For the longest time, Democrats have been afraid to approach the NRA. Don't even bring up the gun situation. Now all of a sudden that's a major risk for her to take on guns.

DOOCY: Well, because her approach is, “Oh, we're looking for common sense gun controls.”

EARHARDT: Background checks.

DOOCY: There are already hundreds of laws on the books. The problem is, are those laws being enforced? And in many cases, they are not.

KILMEADE: And, of course, everybody runs is so successful running against common sense, so.

EARHARDT: I was going to say, everyone, even NRA people, everyone who supports gun laws and Second Amendment, I believe they would all agree with you that they want to make sure that the right people are buying the guns.

DOOCY: Sure. Absolutely.

KILMEADE: Yeah nobody wants Adam Lanza to have a gun. We get that.
