MIKA BRZEZINSKI (CO-HOST): [Trump] may be changing his tone, as well, on immigration.Trump said on Saturday that he wouldn't characterize his immigration --

JOE SCARBOROUGH (CO-HOST): No, he's just saying Trump would like poison me at this state in the campaign.

BRZEZINSKI: He wouldn't characterize his immigration policies as including mass deportations.

[...]

SCARBOROUGH: OK. So he's changing.

[...]

BRZEZINSKI: I'm serious. I have a question. Did he just change his words on this or does he need to reach out to the Muslim community? Does he need to do something that shows some depth on this?

SCARBOROUGH: He's never going to sit there and ring his hands and cry and go, I'm sorry I said that about the Muslim ban. But it looks like he is going to change. It looks like we have seen over the past week him starting to change. Now the second I do that, like Ron Fournier, I love you Ron, but you're like, you can't change. You can't change. Politicians change.

BRZEZINSKI: Yeah.

SCARBOROUGH: And so, and the fact is it's not that it makes it right, but there are people that have not been paying attention to politics. I know this is staggering. But as we get to the convention and Clint Eastwood goes out and stares at a chair, people start paying more attention. And so if he's moving, and it looks like he's moving past the Muslim ban, and now he's moving past the mass deportation element of it.

BRZEZINSKI: What in its place?

SCARBOROUGH: We'll see what happens in its place. But has this worked before in the history of politics? Yes, it has.

WILLIE GEIST (CO-HOST): He's done this before, though, remember? He sort of backed away a little bit. It wasn't all Muslims, it was specific countries. Then Orlando happened, and they said we have got to have the Muslim ban. So it rears its head again. And it ebbs and it flows, and I think, Mika, your daughter is right. You can't just unring a bell when it's been the centerpiece of your campaign --

SCARBOROUGH: That is a big old bell he has rung.

GEIST: One of the core issues that you've talked about throughout your campaign for a year now. You can't suddenly go visit a mosque and say everything is OK.
