Giuliani: “Black Lives Matter ... Puts A Target On The Back Of Police”

AINSLEY EARHARDT (CO-HOST): You're getting a lot of criticism and heat for saying that Black Lives Matter is inherently racist. What's your response to that?

RUDY GIULIANI: Well it's inherently racist because, number one, it divides us. All lives matter. And when the presidential candidate, the governor of Maryland [Martin O’Malley] made the statement that all lives matter, they intimidated him into changing it to Black Lives Matter. All lives matter. White lives, black lives, all lives. Number two, the Black Lives Matter never protests when every 14 hours somebody is killed in Chicago, probably 70, 80 percent of the time a black person. Where are they then? Where are they when the young black child is killed? That is the predominant way in which a black person in this country will be killed. By another black, not by a police officer. What are they doing about that? That doesn't mean -- that means they don't mean black lives matter. They mean, “Let's agitate against a police matters.” If they meant black lives matter, they would be doing something about the way in which the vast majority of blacks are killed in America, which is by other blacks.

STEVE DOOCY (CO-HOST): Rudy, we had Michael Graham from The Weekly Standard on about 20 minutes ago. And he was talking about how the media is playing the race card. And he says that as long as the media pushes the notion that white cops are hunting black men and getting away with it, that's the message America gets.

GIULIANI: That isn't the truth. The truth is, number one, there's nobody -- that's the other thing I wanted to tell Face the Nation, they wouldn't let me tell them. I have prosecuted more police officers than any other mayor in New York history. I put 70 police officers in jail. When a police officer harmed an African-American male, it was my police department that caught them, turned it over to then-U.S. Attorney [Loretta] Lynch, and that police officer is sitting in jail today for 25 years. I am perfectly capable of understanding when police officers act improperly and they should be made an example of when they do. And I also understand why people in the black community are sometimes afraid of police officers when they shouldn't be afraid of police officers, they should seek their help. Police Officers [Rafael] Ramos and [Wenjian] Liu, who died in this city a year and a half ago were protecting a black housing development. And one was Hispanic and one was black. And I would like people know that the New York City Police Department is a non-majority white police department. Partially because of my efforts but also because of Mayor [Ed] Koch, [David] Dinkins, and [Michael] Bloomberg. I understand the other side of it. I don't mean not to talk about the other side of it. But because the other side of it is the only thing that CBS, NBC, ABC, The New York Times, The Daily News, that's all they write about, the American people get a wrong impression and Black Lives Matter, therefore, puts a target on the back of police.
