Fox's Wallace Scrubs Fox's Responsibility For Creating Clinton “Indictment” Lie While Scolding Trump For Hyping It

Fox’s Chris Wallace criticized Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for pushing the lie that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton “faces a criminal investigation and an indictment,” but wholly ignored that the falsehood came straight from Fox News' own airwaves. While chastising Trump’s running mate Indiana Gov. Mike Pence for Trump’s “overstatement” of a forthcoming indictment, Wallace failed to mention that Fox News anchor Bret Baier is responsible for injecting this story into the political conversation through anonymously sourced claims that Clinton is facing an indictment related to ongoing FBI investigations. Wallace also failed to note that Baier had to walk back and apologize for his reporting, which turned out to be untrue. Following Baier’s initial report, Trump ran with the false claims on the campaign trail, and has continued to push the “indictment” lie well after it was debunked. Media Matters has called on Fox to retract Baier's initial report. From the November 6 edition of Fox Broadcasting Co.'s Fox News Sunday:

CHRIS WALLACE (HOST): [Donald] Trump has been arguing that if [Hillary] Clinton wins, that she faces a criminal investigation and an indictment.

[...]

WALLACE: But governor, Trump has no hard evidence that she's going to face an indictment. That's overstatement.
