STUART VARNEY (HOST): OK, that was Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claiming a win because Amazon dumped New York. Far-left Democrats killed a massive job creation plan for the city.
...
VARNEY: Look Jonathan, to me it's simple. The left is waging a now-successful war on business. Go.
JONATHAN HOENIG (CAPITALISTPIG HEDGE FUND): Well certainly, the left has always hated business, and why, Stuart, why? Well because business is for profit. I mean, businesspeople like Jeff Bezos, they're out to make money. They're self-interested. They want to create, they want to build. That ironically is seen as bad in today's culture. That is seen as immoral. It's giving money away, it's sacrificing yourself, that's what's moral. To be out for profit seen as a selfish, as evil, even [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] mentioned it herself, we defeated the richest man in the world. Well, the richest man became the richest man by providing a great service that millions and millions of people love. So, there's that hatred of self-interest, that's -- and what is at the heart of the hatred of business.
VARNEY: I don't want to digress too far Jonathan but do you think this pullout from New York City will hurt Amazon or help it?
HOENIG: Well the irony, Stuart, is that it's not that AOC and other Democrats are against subsidies. They would like you to think oh, no we can't give these -- they just want to give the subsidies to someone else. I think that's what's so frustrating in here is any discussion of really laissez-faire, hands-off, a private economy where there's no incentives, no cronyism -- so yeah I mean there's the hatred for private enterprise, and AOC is just in ignorance of not just wealth creation, but how wealth is morally made in a free society.
