Wash. Times Publishes More Unhinged Attacks On Obama's Faith

The Washington Times continued its long-running attack on President Obama's faith by publishing and op-ed and a column accusing Obama of “secular fanaticism” and “anti-Christian bigotry.”

The op-ed by Liberty Counsel Action vice president Matt Barber and the column by Jeffrey Kuhner both pushed the falsehood that Obama is attacking people of faith because of an administration policy that ensures that women have access to insurance coverage for birth control while accommodating employers who object to providing birth control. Kuhner claimed: “The mandate is an unprecedented assault upon the Catholic Church's conscience rights and religious freedom, blatantly usurping the First Amendment.” In fact, the administration's policy has widespread support from the American public, Catholics, and among many religious institutions.

Kuhner's and Barber's falsehoods were couched in extreme rhetoric such as Kuhner claiming that Obama wants to make himself the head of the Catholic Church:

Mr. Obama is waging an ideological war against the Catholic Church. His mandate is essentially telling the church that it can no longer follow its central teachings on abortion, contraception and sterilization - or else it risks massive fines. Mr. Obama seeks to make himself, not Pope Benedict XVI, the head of the Roman Catholic Church. He is behaving like an ancient Roman emperor. He is claiming the state can impose its pagan morality upon the church's institutions. We are sliding back to third-century Rome.

Barber, meanwhile, wrote that “any Christian who votes for Mr. Obama will get to take that up with God” and endorsed Mitt Romney for president because Christians “won't survive” a second Obama term.

From Barber's op-ed:

Jesus admonished: “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16). It is through this biblical prism that I shine my multicolored analysis.

President Obama is a wolf. Though he purports to be Christian, his policies are decidedly un-Christian.

My friend and colleague Cynthia Dunbar, a law professor at Liberty University School of Law, recently wrote: “In this election year, we find ourselves with only three realistic courses of action: 1) Don't vote; 2) vote for Obama; or 3) vote for Romney.”

It's simple: A Christian nonvote is a vote for Mr. Obama in that it fails to affirmatively cancel out an Obama vote. Furthermore, any Christian who votes for Mr. Obama will get to take that up with God.

This leaves us with our third and final choice: Christians must vote for Mitt Romney. A second Obama term is simply unacceptable. We won't survive it.
