On Monday, discredited right-wing propagandist James O'Keefe released his newest video, targeting the New Jersey Education Association based on footage and audio his team recorded at a leadership conference it held this year. The centerpiece of the video was snippets of audio of Passaic special education teacher Alissa Ploshnick, which appeared to show her cheering on how hard it is to fire a tenured teacher, even in extreme circumstances.
I'm sure you will be shocked to learn that Ploshnick now reportedly believes her comments were taken out of context. According to NJEA spokesman Steve Wollmer, Ploshnick also says that her interviewer bought her a drink and made romantic appeals to her to get her to talk. From an October 26 New Jersey Star-Ledger article:
One union member featured prominently in the video, Passaic special education teacher Alissa Ploshnick, was "apoplectic" when she learned of the videos, Wollmer said, and is also consulting an attorney.
Wollmer said an undercover videographer bought her a drink, and talked about going out to dinner, to get her to open up. He then took her comments out of context, Wollmer said, to make it sound as if she was joking about how hard it is to get a tenured teacher fired.
The video included a clip of her saying "once you get that third year, it's like 'Schwing!'"
"He was offering her both romance and a glass of wine to get her to open up," Wollmer said. "The guy's flat-out sleazy."
