The Washington Post reported today that one of the sources for Republican nominee Donald Trump’s claims that former President Bill Clinton is a rapist also believes that Trump is a rapist.

In an October 9 piece, the Post’s David Weigel profiled Robert Morrow, who co-wrote The Clintons’ War on Women with longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone. Trump is already making an issue of allegations that Bill Clinton sexually assaulted women, and, as Weigel notes, “part of the attack plan was written by” Morrow -- who also believes Trump is a rapist. The problem for Trump is the same for anyone who opens Pandora’s Box. [Robert] Morrow is the best example. What he calls “hardcore political research” – the term “conspiracy theory,” he explains, is a media slur – has convinced him that former president George H.W. Bush is a sex criminal, former Texas governor Rick Perry is a closeted gay swinger and that, as the sign he sometimes carries around Austin says, “Donald Trump is a child rapist.”

That allegation has simmered in the same tabloids as some of the Clinton stories. It’s based on the skin-crawling saga of Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire who befriended powerful men – including Trump and Bill Clinton – before being convicted of statutory rape. Headlines that might have been devastating for Clinton (“Flight logs show Bill Clinton flew on sex offender's jet much more than previously known”) were effectively neutralized by Trump’s previous praise of Epstein.

And that was before a mysterious, anonymous lawsuit – which has been re-filed twice, each time adding a plaintiff – accused Trump of statutory rape. Lawsuits like that offer a chance at getting unconfirmed (or false) information into the headlines. The fact-checking website Snopes has pointed out that Trump has denied the lawsuit's contents, and no one has been allowed to speak to the plaintiffs -- a major red flag. Stone, like most people, considers the lawsuit utterly specious.

Former Trump adviser Michael Caputo, guest hosting on the September 25 edition of WBEN’s Hardline, said he “heard more than one time Donald Trump say” that The Clintons’ War on Women “is his opposition research on the Clintons.” He added that Trump “has it on his desk.”

Media Matters has documented that Morrow has wished death on Hillary Clinton; been visited by the Secret Service; posted bizarre sexual writings about the former secretary of state; called Chelsea Clinton a “slut” and imagined how she would “have sex one day” with Bill Clinton; posted about “pro-faggot JUDICIAL ACTIVISM”; and claimed the Bush and Clinton families were involved in murders. He also has endlessly tweeted the n-word on his Twitter account.
