CBS Corp. CEO and Chairman Leslie Moonves has left the company after multiple women reported sexual misconduct by Moonves to New Yorker reporter Ronan Farrow. The CBS board promised to make an immediate $20 million donation “to one or more organizations that support the #MeToo movement and equality for women in the workplace.” That will come out of any severance due Moonves after an investigation into his behavior has been completed.
Angelo Carusone, president of Media Matters, issued the following statement:
CBS getting rid of Les Moonves was the right thing to do. But, this isn’t over yet.
So far, CBS has not lived up to its assurances of transparency and thoroughness in investigating reported sexual misconduct at the company. Maybe now that there’s a few hundred million dollars at stake, we’ll actually see a complete investigation. We hope that the corresponding board shakeup signifies a change in the company’s ability to honor its commitments regarding investigations.
