On the May 30 edition of his show, CNN's Lou Dobbs characterized an inaccurate citation in 2005 of the number of leprosy cases in the United States as "an ad-lib on the set of this broadcast uttered more than two years ago ... an unscripted ad-lib, not a report," and claimed that he "set this record straight a couple of weeks ago." But on the May 16 show to which he referred, Dobbs did not correct the inaccurate report, as Media Matters for America noted; instead, he misrepresented it without admitting error.
In a recent article, London-based magazine Environment Finance reported that Rupert Murdoch will take steps "to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from his media empire" -- which includes Fox News Channel -- "to zero by 2010." However, in addition to Fox News' Sean Hannity and John Gibson, FoxNews.com posts have directly attacked the purchasing of carbon credits to offset one's "carbon footprint" and have mocked Al Gore's reported use of them.
Columnist Jim Mateja wrote that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) "has more homework to do" and "should [hire] a fact-checker" because Obama stated that "Japanese cars [are] now getting an average of 45 miles to the gallon." In fact, a report from the Pew Center on Global Climate Change stated that the 2002 average fleet fuel economy value in Japan was 46.3 miles per gallon.
A CNN press release declared that Glenn Beck's upcoming "special report" will "deflate what Beck perceives as the media hype surrounding global warming" and "question the accuracy of Al Gore's claims in the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth." Beck has repeatedly advanced falsehoods related to global climate change, cited debunked scientists to support his doubts that "we're causing" global warming, and regularly attacked Gore.
On his radio program, Glenn Beck stated that Al Gore is using "the same tactic" in his efforts to fight global warming that Adolf Hitler used to vilify Jews in Nazi Germany, but Beck said that Gore's "goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That is the goal."
