In light of Glenn Beck's announcement that his Fox News show will be ending, Media Matters for America presents the 50 worst things Beck has said on Fox.

  • Violent Rhetoric

    Breaches Of Common Decency

    Paranoid Conspiracy Theories

    Apocalyptic Predictions

Attacks On Obama And Other Progressives

    Violent rhetoric

Beck Imitates President Obama Pouring Gasoline On “Average American”; Asks: “President Obama, Why Don't You Just Set Us On Fire?” From the April 9, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: So what does Obama do, he says, boy, I'm not -- I'm just out of stuff to do. What else could I possibly do to the American people?

President Obama, why don't you just set us on fire? For the love of Pete, what are you doing? Do you not hear -- do you not hear the cries of people who are saying stop? We would like some sanity in our country for a second.

We didn't vote to lose the republic. We didn't vote for any of this stuff. We voted for change.

    [...]

BECK: We can disagree with each other on policies, but Good Lord Almighty, man, please. Some of us don't agree with all of the policies. We'd like to have a country left in the end of four years. No need to set us on fire. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 4/9/09]

Beck Portrays Obama, Democrats As Vampires “Going After The Blood Of Our Businesses.” From the March 30, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: The government is full of vampires, and they are trying to suck the lifeblood out of the economy. Do you have teenage daughters, by any chance? I have two teenage daughters, and they love this series called Twilight, and I actually had to go with them to the movie, and it was great because other teenage daughters were sitting behind me and they're like, “Oh, he's so dreamy” -- yeah, there he is. All right.

If you saw that movie, you know that vampires, once they sink their fangs into the neck, they just can't stop drinking the blood. They can't control themselves.

A banking friend told me over the weekend -- I was standing at church, and we were talking after church, and he said, “Oh, Glenn, you know, you should stop being such a 'sky is falling, the sky is falling.' These banks, they're going to look to pay out the -- pay back the bailout money as fast as they can.” I just went, “Uh-huh. Sure.” You think they're going to take the fangs out of the necks of the banks and the businesses? I don't think so.

President Obama, Tim Geithner, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, all the other lawmakers are going after the blood of our businesses, big and small. Who's next? They have their fangs in the necks of everybody, and nothing's going to quench their thirst.

    [...]

BECK: There's only two ways for this movie to end: Either the economy becomes like the walking dead, or you drive a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/30/09]

Beck To Fake Nancy Pelosi: “By The Way, I Put Poison In Your” Wine Glass. From the August 6, 2009, edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: I wonder what it would be like, seriously. I mean, if I could go, you know, to the speaker's shindig, wouldn't that be great? What would it -- oh, look, here she -- oh, she is -- wow -- you're so much prettier and flatter and shinier in the face than I expected. It's almost like you're two people at once.

So, Speaker Pelosi, I just wanted to -- you gonna drink your wine? Are you blind? Do those eyes not work? There you -- I want you to drink it now. Drink it. Drink it. Drink it.

I really just wanted to thank you for having me over here to wine country. You know, to be invited, I thought I had to be a major Democratic donor or a longtime friend of yours, which I'm not.

By the way, I put poison in your -- no, I -- I look forward to all the policy discussions that we're supposed to have -- you know, on health care, energy reform, and the economy.

Hey, is that Sean Penn over there? I know it cost me more than $30,000 to get in here, but hey. Hey, I think I see Ed Markey, the author of cap and trade, right over there. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 8/6/09]

Beck: White House And Progressives Are “Taking You To A Place To Be Slaughtered.” From the November 3, 2009, edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: Look, this is not about the things that you and I believe in. Progressives think they know better than you do. They want to control every aspect of your life. Workers of America unite against these people!

The smart grid is not about saving energy or helping the planet. It is about one person, the rich guy, paying more than another guy, the poor guy. He'll pay less!

They call it social justice. They call it fair. They call it -- they call it anything but what it is, Marxism, spreading the wealth, leveling out the playing field.

There is one thing you cannot call any of these plans. You can't call it America. You can't do it.

I told you yesterday buckle up your seatbelt, America. Find the exit. There is one here, here and here.

Find the exit closest to you and prepare for a crash-landing because this plane is coming down because the pilot is intentionally steering it into the trees! Most likely, it will happen sometime after Christmas.

You are going to see this economy come up -- we're already seeing it - - and now it's going to start coming back down again. And when you see the effects of what they're doing to the economy, remember these words: we will survive. We know we'll do better than survive. We will thrive -- as long as these people are not in control. They are taking you to a place to be slaughtered.

Americans are not the people that do this. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 11/3/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: “Shoot Me In The Head If You Try To Change Our Government -- I Will Stand Against You.” From the June 9, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Tea parties believe in small government. We believe in returning to the principles of our Founding Fathers. We respect them. We revere them. Shoot me in the head before I stop talking about the Founders. Shoot me in the head if you try to change our government.

I will stand against you and so will millions of others. We believe in something. You in the media and most in Washington don't. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/9/10]

Beck: “They Are Putting A Gun To America's Head: 'Pass This Or We All Die.' ” From the October 9, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: The president will say he's just being ambitious, but I think it's little more calculated than that. After all, after every major piece of legislation that they are cramming down America's throats, it is being sold to the public as: “It's a crisis, we have to act now. We've got to do it! Well, it's the policies of the past! We've got to act!”

Maybe I wouldn't be so skeptical if the president's own chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel had never said this.

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

RAHM EMANUEL, WHITE HOUSE CHIEF OF STAFF: You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: Yes, but I'm the cynic.

They are putting a gun to America's head. Pass this or we all die! Yes, they're doing that. That's so strange that they do that, because I think the president is saying that he needs to take his time on Afghanistan, but everything else -- rush, rush, rush, rush! Taking his time on Afghanistan, but they have no problem crafting a massive 1,000-page bill that nobody has even read. No one knows who wrote it.

Then it's too late. We find out that the community organizations like the Apollo Alliance, which includes Van Jones and Jeff Jones, the other creator of the Weather Underground, helped craft the stimulus bill. Gee, that would have been good information to have before we signed it. Would you like to know that beforehand?

That Apollo Alliance with the 1960s radicals and communists involved, basically decided what to do with your money. Is there any wonder why it's not working? Or is it exactly the way they designed it? Who elected the Apollo Alliance?

The fundamental transformation is coming. It is happening and the president himself promised us it. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/9/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck's Two Choices Include Marxist “Nanny State” At The Barrel Of A Gun Or “Stop With The Pensions.” From the February 19, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: America has been recklessly spending in the last few decades and it's catching up to us. We knew it. How many times have they been saying, “Social Security is out of control, it's not going to be able to make it, it's going to go bankrupt”? Don't act surprised now.

We have two choices to make. Do we fundamentally transform America into a Marxist “spread the wealth,” cradle to grave, nobody gets a boo-boo nanny state? And, as we have seen in country after country after country, that is only sustainable through the barrel of a gun.

Or, do we come to our senses and realizing that spending and taxing kills everything? Stop with the pensions. Literally paying out 30 times on what somebody pays into them. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/19/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: “America's Blood Is In The Water And Radical Islamists, Radical Communists And Radical Labor Union Leaders, Organizers Know It.” From the March 3 edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Well, it starts with the AFL-CIO, Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, Code Pink -- hey, they were in yes, in Egypt -- SEIU, Illinois state council, Socialist Action, ANSWER, Black is Back Coalition. They demand social justice, peace and reparations for slavery. They want to free Abu-Jamal or Mumia Abu-Jamal, who if I can remind you just real quick, shot this police officer point blank in the head, execution style. But that's who they're standing with.

Also, the Communist Party USA, Radical Women -- this is a socialist feminist, grassroots activist organization that provides a radical voice in the feminist movement. They needed one. Also, Bring the Ruckus -- they're just trying to forge a path between the Leninist Vanguard Party, favored by the traditional Marxist parties and the loose network model of organizing favored by many anarchists and activists of today.

And their final leg comes from the United States Congress. In November of this last year, the Committee to Stop FBI Repression met with the offices of 16 members of Congress, including all of these cats. Oh, look there's Maxine Waters and Conyers and Ellison. This is great!

The group said the meetings were all positive, with the offices expressing genuine concern about their situation.

So, what do all the politicians have in common? Far left progressives or socialists who want to transform America.

Gang, the warning bells are ringing louder than ever before. Bonhoeffer and Churchill, I believe, are in the ground right now trying to fashion little bells to ring themselves. America's blood is in the water and radical Islamists, radical communists and radical labor union leaders, organizers know it. They have people sympathetic to their cause -- the cause of destroying the Western way of lie and they are using the best, most brave, most beloved of us -- the teachers, the firefighters and cops as shields.

Please. You must know who your friends are. You must know what the truth is. And it only gets harder from here.

Wait until you see what we have next that's being taught in the school. But the truth has no agenda. Remember that. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/3/11]

    Breaches Of Common Decency

Beck On LA Sen. Landrieu: “We Know You're Hookin', But You're Just Not Cheap.” From the November 23, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Look, if this health care bill was right, would you need a $100 million bribe? Oh, what are they actually calling it?

Senator Mary Landrieu from Louisiana, she was on the fence with this health care bill, but then she ended up voting for it. What changed her mind? Some amazing cost-cutting maneuver, something that she was reading the bill and went, “Oh, my gosh, that's going to make sure that everybody gets Band-Aids who has boo-boos.”

No, no, it was reported on Friday that her vote was sold for $100 million. Yes, $100 million, right there in the health care bill -- a bill about health and care and covering people on health-related issues.

Senator Landrieu was assured that her state, Louisiana, in the bill, would get $100 million in aid.

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SEN. MARY LANDRIEU (D), LOUISIANA: I am not going to be defensive about asking for help in this situation. And it is not a $100 million fix. It's a $300 million fix.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: Well, I'm sorry. So we know you're hooking, but you're just not cheap. It's $300 million.

She went on to point out that there is bipartisan support for this money in Louisiana. Oh! Well, how about is there support in Texas for it? How about Washington, are you for it? Oregon, are you cool? Ohio, are you good with it? Oh, that's a great. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 11/23/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck Mocks Obama Aunt's “Limp.” Discussing a story about Obama's aunt, who had been fighting deportation, Beck said, “She has a limp, didn't you know that? She should be able to stay. We've only tried her now two times and kicked her out of the country two times. You can't go for three? She's got a limp.” As a guest was speaking, Beck played with a cane and made limping gestures. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 4/2/09]

Beck On Morbidly Obese Americans: “I Say Let Them Die.” From the September 14, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: If I want to be a fat, fat, fattie and shovel French fries all day long, that is my choice. But, oh ho. No, not so fast anymore. Because now we have the new fact, whether you like it or not, we have government health care now.

Well, what does that have to do with French fries? Did you miss the show about a year and a half ago? Because the nation's health care costs are directly tied to the government, and obesity is one of -- if not the most costly conditions, costing you and me now at least $150 billion a year.

You know those fat people who sit in their couch -- and I mean really fat. I mean, not like me. I mean the people who, like -- their skin grows into the couch. And then, you know, they call the fire department and they cut them out of the wall, and then they have to bring in a truck, and then they take them to the hospital. I say let them die.

I say punish the person who's been bringing them the milkshakes that allowed them to eat and not get up off the couch. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 9/14/10]

Beck On People Who Say Hitler's Atrocities Couldn't Happen Here: “Well, Did The Germans Think That It Could?” From the September 24, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: The key is socialism. One never thinks or imagines that this can happen again. No one thinks it could happen here. Well, did the Germans think that it could? Did they -- did the Germans sit there at night and go, “You know, that Hitler thing -- that could end in concentration camps and the liquidation of the Jews.” Did they really think that? Or did people say all along the way, “Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, this isn't going well. This isn't -- no, this isn't -- no, this isn't us. We shouldn't go down this way.”

And then they were told they were conspiracy theorists. They were told that it was wrong -- that -- they would even speak out. And then the beatings started. And then executions started. And then that argument just went away. [Glenn Beck, Fox News, 9/24/10]

Beck: “African Americans Don't Own Martin Luther King.” From the July 12, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: But people have been acting as though no white man can mention or praise or support the mission of Martin Luther King. I'm sorry. African-Americans don't own Martin Luther King. It's a human idea. Just like white people don't own George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. These are American icons and ideas, and we are all Americans. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 7/12/10]

Beck: If Black Liberation Theology Were True, “Then Jesus Would Have ... Made The Jews Pay For What They Did.” From the July 15, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Poverty, according to theology, this Liberation Theology, is because the poor are only poor because they are victims of the oppressor. James Cone is credited with starting Liberation Theology and the same Liberation Theology that is behind Reverend Wright's church.

JAMES CONE, THEOLOGIAN [video clip]: Any group that has institutional power, they are violent. Therefore the mainline denominations in this country have been violent against black people. The crucifixion of Jesus was a First Century lynching. America has a tradition of lynching in which America lynched more than 5,000 black people in this land. The Christian church said very little about it. It was very violent, lynching.

So if we understand the cross correctly, we will see it as Jesus being a victim of lynching, a victim of violence. So at the heart of the Christian faith is God taking upon God's self the suffering of the victim. When you see a lynched black body, that's who God is.

BECK: There is a lot there. This is kind of complex. Because Jesus did identify with the victims, but Jesus was not a victim. He was a conqueror. The death of Jesus Christ is a moment of victory, as is the resurrection. See, this is the main difference here, victims as opposed to messiahs, conquerors. Victims were conquerors. Jesus conquered death. He wasn't victimized. He chose to give his life. He did have a choice.

If he was a victim, and this theology was true, then Jesus would have come back from the dead and made the Jews pay for what they did. That's an abomination. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 7/15/10]

Beck's Sexist Explanation For Why Passing Health Care Reform Won't Save Money: “I'm A Guy And I'm Married To A Chick.” From Beck's Fox News show:

BECK: Now, this is how I know this is bull! If I went to my wife and I said, “Honey, I want to go to the Super Bowl, it's going to be fantastic.” She'd say, “We don't have the money, we can't afford it. Be responsible.”

OK. You'd say, “No, no, no. Honey, no. The tickets are $800 per ticket plus hotel plus food and entertainment. But I got a special deal on the tickets. I have it for $500. I'm saving $300.”

What would she say? Let me think. “No!” OK. She would explain it's still going to cost $500 for the ticket and everything else. That's not a savings. You're still spending.

Hmmm. I see the problem here. See what's going on. “Honey, you don't -- you don't hear what I'm saying. Maybe I need to explain it. Maybe I should give more speeches to you. Did I mention all the savings?” The answer still would be: “You're not going.” Right?

Now, let's say you have absolutely no regard for the wrath of the woman you're married to or you make the decision to book the trip anyway, she'll understand when I give another speech to her. Well, when she finds out that you pole-vaulted right over her and completely ignored you, she'll demand that you cancel the trip. That's when you bring out the logic of President Obama and Chuck Dodd to save the day.

You say to her, “Wait, wait, wait, honey, honey, honey, calm down. Listen, not only am saving money but I can't cancel the Super Bowl trip. If we do that, we will lose the $300 savings. You see what I'm saying?”

That's when she votes you out of office because you lied, you disrespected, and completely went behind her back. If she can't trust you with Super Bowl tickets, what can she trust you with? You see, you would also say to her, “But, honey, if we cancel it now, we'd not only lose the $300 but I already booked it. I mean, I've already got stuff and we're going to lose even more money.”

It's all a game and, unfortunately, we don't get really expensive commercials in this game that they are playing in Washington. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/2/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: Health Reform Is “Good Old Socialism ... Raping The Pocketbooks Of The Rich To Give To The Poor.” From the July 21, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Really, I was just so busy reading the health care bill. It's so exciting. Here's President Obama and his little band-aid cape -- here to save the day!

President Obama has his massive $1.5 trillion health care plan. It's hogging up the news cycle. And the Republicans, and -- you know, a lot of people are starting to say, ain't this socialist here? I mean, this is pretty crazy.

The answer to me on that one is really easy. Yes. It's good old socialism -- you know, pretty much raping the pocketbooks of the rich to give to the poor. I think that's socialism. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 7/21/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: “Politicians” Will “Sell You And Your Children Into Slavery.” From the October 10, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Why are they working overtime? Because they don't care -- they don't care. They don't care about you, because they don't believe you get them elected anymore. It's giant corporations, giant businesses. You're too fickle. You're too hard to figure out.

Maybe it's time to ask yourself this: should we still continue to put up with the same old politicians who care so much about their seat and their power and their titles that they'll sell you and your children into slavery in order to do special favors for their cronies with your checkbook? Or is it time to say, gosh, maybe that sounds insane, we should think out of the box and try something -- oh, I don't know -- different than Charlie Rangel or Barney Frank, or Arlen Specter, or Chris Dodd, or Olympia Snowe -- or all of them? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/22/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck Suggests People Have Been Misled Into Thinking “In The 1790s, Blacks and Whites Hated Each Other, It Was Slavery.” From the June 25, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: OK. All right. So, now, wait a minute, Richard Allen was also -- he was a preacher at a white church, right? A megachurch?

BARTON: A megachurch. He was -- he preached to 2,000 whites at a church in Philadelphia.

BECK: Again, give me the year.

    BARTON: This is about 1790s.

BECK: OK. How many here in the audience have been led to believe that in the 1790s, blacks and whites hated each other, it was slavery, right? And how many people -- raise your hand -- how many people said -- look at that, look at that -- that we just -- that we just hated each other.

    BARTON: Yes.

BECK: Actually, the truth is, with Richard Allen, this mega, mega preacher, he tried to segregate.

    BARTON: Yes.

    BECK: Tell me the story.

BARTON: In the 1790s, he proposed having a black denomination and both whites and blacks said, we don't want to do that. We want the integrated stuff. We don't want separate denominations.

There was finally an overt act of racism in one church that kind of gave him the impetus to go ahead and start a black denomination. But for years neither blacks nor whites wanted a separate denomination because they worshipped together in those churches in Philadelphia and elsewhere.

BECK: All right. That's not to say that they weren't racist.

    BARTON: No. They absolutely were.

BECK: There's always racists, there always will be. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/25/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck On Obama's Policies: “It's 9-11 All Over Again Except We Didn't Have The Collapsing Buildings.” From the March 25, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Our leadership now is continuing to push for a cap-and-trade bill which will raise our energy prices and, of course, limit our own oil production. So let me see if I have this right. If the Saudi oilfields don't burn down to the ground, if they catch all the terrorists and nothing ever happens there, we can be dependent on them.

But we are going to dry up all of our oil anyway because we're going to have a big cap and trade. We're not going to be able to go for that. What are they doing to us? What are they doing?

We must be independent. These pressures keep building and the vise gets tighter and tighter and tighter. There are - I was going to say easy. They are not easy long term principles.

But there are long term principles that will solve these issues. We've talked about them at length many times. We're going to talk about them in the next few weeks. I'm going to solve some of these things.

And you've got - I'm telling you, you don't have to agree with my answer. But you've got to be behind something that makes sense. In the shorter term, we just need to keep our heads.

We need to fight hard within the rules and pray, get down on your knees and pray, pray. It is September 11th all over again except we didn't have the collapsing buildings, but we need God more than ever.

Gandhi said use truth as an anvil, and a hammer, nonviolence. And you just keep pounding on that with nonviolence and you reject anything that doesn't make sense.

We can beat the issues that lie ahead of us. We can do it. But the situation is only made more difficult when our own leadership, our own Congress, our own president, is not telling us the truth and for political reasons, tightening that vise. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/25/10, transcript via Nexis]

    Paranoid Conspiracy Theories

Beck Suggests Soros Will Kill Him For His Brazil Oil Conspiracy Theory. From the June 21, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Gasoline Brazil. Now why am I telling you about this? Have you heard of another word? Soros. George Soros. I do have a bulletproof car, George. I just want you to know.

    [...]

BECK: I'm not sure if he knew that the administration would be making a $2 billion preliminary commitment for Petrobras, for Petrobras, for exploration, just days after he strengthened his investment. Isn't that weird? You see, he's got some connections here, but I'm sure he had no idea what was coming on the other side of the circle? No. It's probably just another one of those bad luck situations for Obama, because this doesn't seem to pass the smell test at all. No. Billionaire investor dumps money into a state-controlled Brazilian oil company; days later the American administration dumps $2 billion into the exact same company. What are the odds, Gilligan?

Let's go here. George Soros starts the Center for American Process with John Podesta. John Podesta, Center for American Progress, selects the Obama transition team. Soros buys $900 million in gasoline powered bras. Then, in a completely unrelated story, BP has their oil spill. But wait a minute, who's this guy? John Podesta. John Podesta is the guy who does all the lobbying for BP? Certainly -- I'm sorry, Tony Podesta -- certainly no relation to John Podesta, other than they're brothers. We'll have to come back to that one later in the show. So then Center for American Progress starts to make Obama policy. This one, we'll show you, laid out by Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal. One of the policies: cap and trade, which goes right to Crime Inc. and all of the Obama friends with the Climate Exchange in Chicago. That's weird.

Then Obama suspends the deepwater drilling at 1,500 meters. He says “Hey, hey, that's dangerous! Fifteen hundred meters, that's crazy.” Petrobras is drilling at 2,777 meters. Obama knows it and loans $2 billion to Petrobras. Last stop, Petrobras shareholders get rich. Oh my gosh, we're back at the beginning: shareholder, Petrobras. Getting rich. You getting screwed. You see how this works? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/21/10]

Beck: U.S. Government To Seize Land Through Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac In Order To Back New Currency. From the October 28, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Well, to pay off the $105 trillion government debt, and to take care of this whole mess and clean it up, here's what I think they're doing. Look at the debt clock once again. They're only saying almost $12 trillion at the top, but the whole number is about $343,000 per citizen. There's no way to pay that off.

So, conjecture on my part, how about we just print enough money to pay off the debt over time. Sure, I mean, it will be worthless, but we'll be able to honor our agreement. We'll be able to give the Chinese their money back, and the rest of our debtors. That way, the people that we owed get their money, and if we sold some stuff to 'em, well, they can come and take those assets.

But then what's left? Because, see, there's got to be somebody who has thought this through. How do you restart the country? You got to have something left. You have to have something to back the currency -- gold -- gold would be a good one, huh?

There are $200 trillion in investable assets in the world. There are only $800 billion in gold. That's why we went off the gold system in the first place. We need more money. There is not enough gold.

Well, you can't go back to the gold standard for very long, and you need something to buy stuff with. You can't barter forever, what are you going to do?

Well, if you have to have money, and you got to base it on something. So, let's go back in history and look at the people and what they taught in last century -- when there's out-of-control money supply problems, who do you turn to? Well, the people who did it last time, the Weimar Republic in Germany. What did they do? How did they get their economy back on their feet?

Well, after their currency had become so worthless that they had printed $2 trillion mark bank notes, their economy collapsed. They dumped the mark. The got rid of it. They just printed it up, paid off their debts, and then they switched to the Rentenmark.

Now, what did they back it up with? Not enough gold. Look, your answer is right here. The answer is right here. They can back it with real estate, land. That's what they did in Germany.

And there's certainly enough land and resources in America that we could back our currency with. I mean, the government -- the government though, would have to own all of the land -- oh, my gosh, I just thought of something, between Fannie and Freddie, the government already owns half of all of some of the U.S. mortgages and they're about to buy more. And if you couple that with federal land and the grab for parks that they're doing now and did you hear “The polar bears are too crowded and endangered” so they just gave, what was it, 200 square miles there -- that's great.

Oh, and all the oil that we currently not drilling for and coal that we're not mining. Gosh, if you took all of that, I bet you could base a new currency off of that. Oh, and I bet China could come and help, because you probably wouldn't be happy with a system like that taking all the land because that's one of our real rights that we had in our Constitution. Beck Explains “The Coming Insurrection” Of Marxists And Islamic Radicals That Will “Implode” The “Whole World” And Create A New Caliphate. From the January 31 edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: OK. Let me just -- let me just take you through this map. I want to show you the coming insurrection.

Remember, we started over here with France, and England and Italy and Greece, all on fire, right? We have been telling you about the coming insurrection that is happening all in Europe, all across Europe. They've been protesting out in the streets and setting things on fire, and destroying things and it's all laid in out coming insurrection.

I told you that this is a global movement. Could you play this out with me and just humor me for a second?

Here we have Egypt. It started in Tunisia. Tunisia, then left -- leapfrogged Libya and went right over here to Egypt.

But they're starting -- the fires are starting here as well. But we see them here. This is already in revolution and flipped.

This is in revolution. I want you to look where Israel is, right here. Israel, the Gaza Strip is on fire. Do you have any idea, this strait, how much commerce is done through here?

You also have this little area. All the oil from the UAE, everything, closed here. This is Iran.

    Play this out with me.

So, it jumps from here, starts fire here and here. Then if the Muslim Brotherhood and the radicals would take over like they did in 1979, I'll show you in a minute, it's exactly what happened. Oh, no, this is all moderate stuff.

If it happens over here, then we not only have a problem with Israel, but Saudi Arabia is in trouble, because remember, Saudi Arabia is also not a friendly place. Riots will start here. Iraq will be squeezed. Syria, Georgia will fall.

Who will stand with the United States? Who will stand with Israel? Because this is Sunni and this Shiite. You have Hamas, Hamas and Hezbollah. Hezbollah has to got to cause more chaos here. They will clearly go into Iraq where we are and the squeeze begins.

This will be on fire. This is already on fire. This is on fire. This is on fire. And it's riots all along.

So, now, you have the entire Middle East being pushed by Iran and Saudi Arabia basically, if it remains. They'll drag these guys out at any time and kill them all. These guys have to be freaking out.

Let me go the other direction. Let me go here. This is Africa, the tip of Africa. Here's Egypt, Libya, Tunisia.

What's next to Tunisia? Algeria -- also on fire now. The riots are starting here

Morocco is on fire. What's across from Morocco? Spain, connected to France and Germany and Italy, also on fire. And Greece, also on fire, which brings you right back here to Turkey.

The entire Mediterranean is on fire. More than that, it's not just the surrounding countries of the Mediterranean. It also spreads up here. You have U.K. and Ireland already with riot in the street. You have Russia with a bombing.

Well, now, let's see -- let's play this through. What do you think happens? These two collide. They quite honestly, they could make us collapse financially.

Just these two colliding. Let alone, if this is on fire as well, our forces there? What do we do?

This is colliding. We're pouring all of our money into here and here and trying to keep things stable. China pushes this direction. Here's China pushes this direction, just says knock it off, guys. These guys are pushing this direction. This is all pushing up into the middle, into the Mediterranean, into Spain.

This becomes a caliphate. This becomes China dominant. This becomes Muslim caliphate.

If they think Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Libya, possibly Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, are now some sort of a Muslim caliphate. If anyone begins to think that is a chance, what happens to the overwhelming radical population of the U.K., of radical Islamists? What happens? Do they just sit around on their hand or do they see an opportunity?

When you take the Marxist and you combine them with the radical from Islam, when you combine those forces, which is exactly -- we'll show you this week -- what is happening here, the whole world starts to implode. Does Russia push across this way? And what do we do?

This is not just happenstance. This is not just poor people mad at rich people. This is coordinated. Tunisia was the beginning.

I think there is a chance that Tunisia is our Archduke Ferdinand moment that I've been telling you about, warning that it would start in some place that wouldn't look like anything, and most of us wouldn't understand it.

He was the guy assassinated in Sarajevo, June 1914. A month later, Austria and Hungary declared war against Serbia and the rest is called World War I. I believe a snowball is being formed, and it is starting to roll.

There are too many people that want to have their dream world, not going to be able to catch it. But you can at least prepare to not get caught in the snowball. I'm going to show you in a minute how this isn't Berlin. This is Iran 1979.

I'll show you why we really went to war in Iraq. It's not for weapons of mass destruction. And then, if we have time, tonight, we'll introduce you to our friend, Mubarak. Next. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/31/11]

Beck: Cass Sunstein Is “The Most Dangerous Man In America.” From the September 22, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Let me start with the most dangerous man in America: Cass Sunstein. Here he is. He seems like a nice guy. I know Republicans who love him. I know Republicans who say, “I'm crazy about” -- that's fine. That's fine. Let the evidence of his actions and his own words -- and you decide. Let me put them out, and you decide.

I say he's the most dangerous man for a couple of reasons, and for about a year and a half, you haven't understood, because you haven't seen his work, and I haven't been able to point to his work until now. But now that I can -- look out, the clock is ticking. He doesn't have to post his work online anywhere. He doesn't answer to you. He doesn't have to hold a press conference. He doesn't have to do anything except what he wants to do. And you're not gonna know anything about what he's done until long after he's gone.

Now, that's the first reason. The first reason he's dangerous is 'cause you never see him coming. But he's also dangerous because, besides the unlimited, unchecked power that he has to regulate every single industry and every single person in America, he also believes that the best solution for America to fix, because we both agree it's unsustainable, is the redistribution of wealth and a global government run by elites. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 9/22/10]

Beck: George Soros “Is The Head Of The Snake.” From the October 15, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: And that's what they found out in the first progressive movement. If we don't have God, if we don't have him, if we don't -- if we can't control these churches. Wilson, his father was a preacher. Most everybody in the early progressive movement, their father or somebody involved was a preacher. And they hated it. Right? It was a twisted version. And they hated it.

DAVID BARTON : I mean, the ACLU was headed by a preacher in the progressive movement. Americans for Democratic Action, headed by a preacher in the progressive movement. It is amazing how many of those progressive organizations were headed by preachers.

BECK: Well, Jim Wallis. And Jim Wallis today. He's an amazing individual.

CALVIN BEISNER: Who also takes money from George Soros.

BECK: No! It's almost like George Soros is the head of the snake. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/15/10]

Beck: “The Environmentalists Are Now Worshiping The Ancient God Of Babylon, The God Of Weather.” From the October 15, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: And I get to the god of Ancient Babylon, and I see what happened in Ancient Babylon. And the god of Ancient Babylon was Baal. B-A-A-L. And this jumped out at me so much. I was just like, “Oh, my gosh.” And what it was, was ancient Babylon and the Tower of Babel -- and we'll do a show on this, but let me give you the highlights here. Basically, the king says, “You know what? We're all gonna just-- we're all gonna be one.” And it's the first socialism.

CALVIN BEISNER (founder, Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation): Totalitarianism.

BECK: Yeah, totalitarianism. And the god of Ancient Babylon -- Baal was the god of weather and war and commerce. So in other words -- and the reason why is, he who controls the weather -- he who knows what's happening with the weather -- then can make money, because of the plantings and everything else. And also can wage war. Because if you know what the weather is going to be like, you're not getting trapped in a snowstorm or anything else.

And I thought to myself: “This is the same god.” We are now worshiping -- or the environmentalists are now worshiping -- the ancient god of Babylon, the god of weather. And they're saying, “You gotta worship the god of weather. That way, there won't be war. And that way there'll be commerce, and we can all live.” It's repeating itself from the very beginning. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/15/10]

Beck: Cloward and Piven “Want To Destroy” America. From the November 5, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: We have to try to be better. We have to learn from our mistakes. Not bury them -- learn from them. But also not exploit those mistakes. And there are an awful lot of people in America that would like to exploit those mistakes. Equal number that would like to bury them, forget them.

But do people really want to destroy it? Well, people like Cloward and Piven do. Cloward and Piven. You probably didn't even know who these people were, I mean, unless you were -- I mean, unless you were living in the basement of your -- if you're a progressive, maybe. A die-hard progressive. Or you were living in the basement of your mom's house, you know, in your underpants eating Cheetos and going, “I'm telling ya! It's Cloward and Piven.” [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 11/5/10]

Beck Promotes Conspiracy Theory That Obama Returned Churchill Bust Because He Hates Britain. From the June 29, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Do remember when we gave the big statue back, the bust of Churchill right after Obama got in? In it didn't make sense to me. It hasn't made sense to me. Any clues - any clues why this gift from the English after 9/11 was boxed up and sent back? I haven't figured out a reason.

Why does Obama harbor animosity toward the British? Possible - I don't know. Why would he return this bust?

    [...]

BECK: What puts you in a position to act unexplainably in weird ways toward our ally? Something must have happened in your life and maybe this is a part of it.

The story told by Barack Obama's step-grandmother, a woman he calls Granny Sarah. In 1949, Barack Obama's grandfather, Hussein Obama, was involved in Kenya's independence from Great Britain.

Well, the grandfather, we think, was working for the movement to overthrow the British and he was arrested by British authorities. According to her, Granny Sarah, grandpa was tortured for information on the insurgency. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/29/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: Lawmakers Are Pushing “A Ban On Guns.” On his Fox News show, Beck claimed that lawmakers are pushing “a ban on guns” in response to the Arizona shooting. Beck stated:

BECK: It didn't take long for Washington to come out with their solution to the problem of the alleged violent rhetoric. The solution, however, comes despite not having a shred of evidence that this crazed gunman was motivated by anything other than his craziness. Politicians, however, are there to protect you, and they're pushing a ban on certain symbols and words, a ban on guns, a ban on talk radio. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/11/11]

    Apocalyptic Predictions

Beck: “Christians Believe Jesus Is Coming Back Again -- Probably Sooner Rather Than Later, I'm Just Saying.” From Beck's show:

BECK: Can you go to the map, please? Put the map back up here.

See, Israel -- I mean, it's right here. And Egypt was the only thing that kept everything from going up in flames -- a big hole in the line of defense now if you take out Egypt. As we showed you, they are surrounded.

I don't know if you've ever been to Israel, but I have. And what is striking about it is how tiny it is. Yet, there has never ever been another country like it on Earth -- one that disappeared about 2,000 years ago. And it was prophesied that it would come back and play a huge role.

Now, look how small that country is. There's no country that has disappeared, prophesied that it would come back and then 2,000 years later, did and was this important. That's kind of weird, huh?

This is an important place. There's a reason why this postage stamp is fought over by everybody. It is a place where man first listened to God, the Temple Mount. This is where it all begins.

Judaism believes this is the place where God gathered the dust to create Adam. Abraham was set to sacrifice his own son Isaac right there. Muslims believe this is where Muhammad's ascent to heaven was from. It's where Jesus turned over the tables. It's where Christians believe Jesus is coming back again -- probably sooner rather than later, I'm just saying.

Three of the world's major religions stem from this postage stamp. And when you're there, you really realize how small it is. And yet, the Temple Mount -- this right there behind this wall, it just calls out to you.

That's me, the fat belly right there in Israel a few years back. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/30/11]

Beck: “There Will Be Rivers Of Blood If We Don't Have Values And Principles.” From the May 14, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: I just the other day read a letter between Thomas Jefferson and James -- or John Adams. It was 1920 -- 1823, 1824. And they were going back and forth and they were talking about, wow, this is going to fall apart at some point. And Thomas Jefferson said, yes, yes. But if they lose freedom -- he's speaking of us -- future generations, if they lose freedom, there will be rivers of blood.

I mean, he talks about rivers of blood three or four times before we finally gain freedom back. Boy, I hope that's not true. But I can tell you there will be rivers of blood if we don't have values and principles. Second attempt, third attempt, fourth attempt -- it's going to take a while to turn it back around.

You must see yourself as guardian, somebody who will preserve what is true and pass it on. Be a guardian. We don't need militants or revolutionaries. We need guardians. We need leaders.

There are plenty of Minutemen. People willing to be Minutemen. Where are the people that want to be George Washington? Where are the Benjamin Franklins? Where is Sam Adams? Where is John Adams?

That's what the 9/12 Project is. It's not to create warriors but to create great minds that understand freedom to be able to be the next George Washington. That is your role. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/14/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck Claims Obama Will “De-Develop America,” Cut Average Income To $14K/Year. From the June 29, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Do you remember Obama's science czar, John Holdren? Love this cat. Here's what he said -- he advocated the de-development of the United States.

    Let's watch.

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOHN HOLDREN, OBAMA SCIENCE CZAR: I think, ultimately, the rate of growth of material consumption is going to have to come down. And there's going to have to be a degree of redistribution of how much we consume, in terms of energy and material resources, in order to leave room for people who are poor to become more prosperous.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: So, if you want to use less energy, you could become more efficient, or you could do something that would make energy costs necessarily skyrocket. Cap-and-trade, doesn't that what the president say? We'd use less energy because we'd have to pay more for it, and then that money would go over here to places like Kenya.

You're feeling all warm and cuddly inside. It's going to be good! This is what America voted for when they voted for change!

When all is said and done, the president and the radicals he has surrounded himself with, when all is said and done and they successfully de-developed America to make the whole world huggable and soft. It's going to be great. Everyone won't have been lifted, they'll just be dragged down to the same kind of miserable kind of existence.

Imagine, America, what your life is going to be like when everybody in the world makes -- yes! Now how much would you pay? You, too, can go from $47,000 a year, all the way down to $14,000. Happy?

This is the M.O. of this administration. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/29/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck Suggests Obama Admin. Might Kill “10 Percent” Of Population, Is More Corrupt Than Nixon. From the June 10, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Please share this episode with your friends. Please DVR this show so you don't miss any of it. If you just joined us, we were talking about a group in the United States. We had a group here whose goal it was to eliminate 10 percent of the U.S. population.

Why? That's what anarchists, Marxists, communists, revolutionaries, Maoists do. They have to do it to be able to gain control. But when they first came up with these ideas, it was a small group, incapable of pulling off the overthrow of the United States government, right?

They couldn't do it. In the 1960s, they couldn't do it because the family was together, because our got even run by this guy wasn't as corrupt as it is now. And they were radicals.

They've changed the radical pose. And they've put themselves in power and they've made you the radical. Now, they can. Now, they can. A secret FBI report in 1976 noted that the Weather Underground was receiving aid from Cuba, technical assistance from North Korea.

In other words, this was a situation that had the potential to become far, far worse with people like Bill Ayers who was OK with killing 10 percent of the people. The point is to expose these people. We're not this stupid. Americans are not this stupid. We just don't want to believe.

You have to look at the truth before this thing becomes something out of our control. I'm not saying - and I want to make this clear. You know, I have to tell you something. With shows like this tonight that make me go home.

And when I go to bed and I say my prayers I say, “Lord, what else do you want me to do? What else could I possibly say? What other video? What else could I do to get people to wake up? All right?

Please. Please help people wake up. I'm not saying that you and I are going to, you know, meet each other next week in a concentration camp in southern Utah. I am saying that there are elements with connections, with government officials that have positions in the government now.

This guy is writing books on - this is a comic book by Bill Ayers, OK? How to teach our children - do you want these people - these are the people who have actually been willing to and tried to accomplish it in the past.

Let me show you again what they said about - this is an FBI agent who infiltrated the Weather Underground. This is him in 1981. Please listen to this.

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GRATHWOHL: I asked, well, what is going to happen to those people that we can't reeducate, but are die-hard capitalists? And the reply was they would have to be eliminated. And when I pursued this further, they estimated that they would have to eliminate 25 million people in these reeducation centers. And when I say ”eliminate," I mean kill - 25 million people.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: These are the same people that are everywhere in the government and our education system. Please, please. Learn from history. Please. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/10/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: “This Is The Last Dying Breath Of Our Churches If We Don't Snap Out Of It.” From the May 18, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: If I have told you five years ago that the United States government would bypass the Congress and then go right through the EPA for climate change, and have the EPA declare that every time you exhale, you poison the Earth. If I have told you that five years ago, you would have said, not in America. If I would have added this: that the government is going to merge with churches under the Democrats, you would have said I was stark-raving insane.

But that's what's happening. And that is exactly why I told you this just a couple of months ago. Do you remember when I gotten heat for this?

    (BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

BECK: I beg you, look for the words “social justice” or “economic justice” on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice -- they are code words.

    (END AUDIO CLIP)

BECK: OK. My goodness. Like this -- suddenly I went from a religious zealot to a godless atheist animal with that paragraph. That's it. I was a heretic and a heathen and a hater. All of a sudden, I had all these Christians coming out of the woodwork to boycott my show.

Wow, it was weird! It was really weird. And I knew it wasn't about me. No, no, no. This is about you. The reason I warned you about this is because they are injecting social justice poison into our churches and it is the last -- this is the last dying breath of our churches if we don't snap out of it. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/18/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck's Economic Forecast: “The Great Depression Times 100” Or Hyperinflation Like The Weimar Republic. From the January 5 edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: So what happens when we get to that point? China and other investors stop financing our debt growth. Which is unstoppable. Well, there are three options. One, we sober up and miracle happens. The stimulus package and all the stuff we've done worked.

And I come on the television and say I was wrong. All of this is - everything I said was wrong and I apologize. Mr. President, you saved the country. That's the first one. The second one is the Fed and the treasury and the government decide they're going to print up more money and make up for the shortfall because nobody is loaning us any more money.

The third is they can stop printing money. Well, if you print money, then your money is worthless, OK? Hyper inflation. But this one, if you stop printing money, well then, you get what is behind door number two and that is another depression.

Everything comes to a grinding halt. Programs lose funding. Social security checks go unpaid. Employers can't meet payrolls. It's not just another Great Depression. It is the Great Depression times 100.

This is the reason why I told you two years ago, please, study the Weimer Republic because the German politicians were faced with exactly the same situation that we're entering into now.

And they chose the same thing, our - we've got to do something politicians are choosing to do, print and hope that something else happens. Well, that leads to the pleasant option behind door number three, hyperinflation.

Well, you don't know what hyperinflation looks like. It looks ugly, real ugly. The value of money drops so fast that you have to immediately run out and spend your paycheck. Do we have a picture of the Weimer hyperinflation?

Here is a guy. This is money to go out and buy a loaf of bread. Weimer hyperinflation. Wheelbarrow money. Loaf of bread. Monetizing your debt, by the way, always ends exactly the same way in the history of the world. It has never ended any other way.

But we're America. So I'm sure the laws of economics and physics will just bend for America. You have to ask yourself, are the people in Washington this stupid that they think they can get away with this? Or is it part of Cloward and Piven?

Well, I don't think that they're stupid. It's not a coincidence that seemingly every economic initiative this administration pursued leads us down unsustainable path, like the latest debacle with unions and pension plans, something again I warned about over two years ago. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/5/10, transcript via Nexis]

Attacks On Obama And Other Progressives

Beck: Obama Is A “Racist” Who Has “Exposed Himself As A Guy” With “A Deep-Seated Hatred For White People, Or The White Culture.” From the July 28, 2009, edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

BECK: This president, I think, has exposed himself as a guy -- over and over and over again -- who has a deep-seated hatred for white people, or the white culture. I don't know what it is. But you can't sit in a pew with Jeremiah Wright for 20 years and not hear some of that stuff and not have it wash over.

What kind of president of the United States immediately jumps on the police? Just like what kind of president would ever say, “Oh, well, yeah. Well, he's black. Of course he was breaking into the house.” You'd never do that. You'd never do that.

    [...]

BRIAN KILMEADE (co-host): But listen, he -- you can't say he doesn't like white people. David Axelrod's white. Rahm Emanuel's his chief of staff -- are white. This -- I think 70 percent of the people that we see every day are white. Robert Gibbs is white.

BECK: I'm not saying that he doesn't like white people. I'm saying he has a problem. He has a -- this guy is, I believe, a racist. Look at the things he has been surrounded by. [Fox News, Fox & Friends, 7/28/09]

Beck: Obama Agenda Based On “Reparations” And “A Model That Will Settle Old Racial Scores Through New Social Justice.” From the July 23, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Here is “The One Thing” tonight: everything that is getting pushed through Congress, including this health care bill, are transforming America and they are all driven by President Obama's thinking on one idea: reparations. You crazy right-wing extremist!

Before you say anything, President Obama is against reparations. He, himself, said so. He said that, but what the media didn't report on conveniently during the election ignores the reason why he is against reparations. As I warned before the election, he doesn't think that reparations would go far enough.

Quote, “I fear that reparations would be an excuse for some to say, 'We've paid our debt,' and to avoid the much harder work.”

    [...]

BECK: Obama is no dummy. He knows that he would never pass reparations. He knows he would never pass any of this stuff. This is all affirmative action.

He also knows we can't afford health care. He knows we can't afford cap-and-trade and more stimulus bills.

But see, that's assuming that he wants to take care of somebody's health. It's assuming that he wants unemployment numbers the way we all understand unemployment numbers, and he said that he wants to take care of the environment.

But I don't think those are his goals. That's a nice bonus.

His goal is creating a new America, a new model, a model that will settle old racial scores through new social justice. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 7/23/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: The “End Of The Progressive Road” Is “Nazis Or Communists” Or White Supremacists. From the March 1, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: I know it sounds like crazy talk to talk about communists, because, I mean, you've got to be kidding me. It's not about communists. It never has been about communists either. Never has been. That guy is a lunatic fringe, just like white supremacists on the other side. Right here.

This side, up and down, communist and fascist. Those people are crazy. This is about progressivism. And most people - they are in here. When they say they're progressives, they don't think they're headed here. But progress, baby steps - you are moving toward something. You're moving toward one of these.

This is why they called George Bush a fascist, because progressives know what is at the end of the progressive road. Whether it's Nazis or communists, someone has to control your life. Someone will be at the controls. Communists would like it to be them. Nazis are rooting for their side.

I'm not rooting for any side. I'm rooting for this side. Wrong side of the scale, guys. This is a war for your rights, you free agency, your free agency to choose for yourself. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/01/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck Likens Congress, Maxine Waters, To “Economic Terrorist[s].” From the August 10, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: There are economic terrorists. Yeah. Somebody that would force you to do something you didn't want to do by scaring you. Like Congress! Like Congress, when they pull people -- you remember Maxine Waters when she said, “I'll tell you what this liberal's gonna do. This liberal's gonna take your country -- ” Remember that? That's kind of an economic terrorist right there.

You see, terrorism in its broadest form is just designed to scare you into changing your way of life. Because they know -- well, for instance, Maxine Waters knows you can't defeat the free market system. So you have to scare it. Control it. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 8/10/10]

Beck: “The President Is A Marxist”; “I Think That We Are Setting Up A Class System.” From the July 17, 2009, edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck:

CHARLES PAYNE (Fox Business contributor): I sincerely believe that the president has a real fixation against rich people being rich. And I think that the only way you can change the culture.

BECK: Hang on just a second. Hang on just a second.

    PAYNE: Yes.

BECK: I speak your same language. Let me translate. The president is a Marxist next.

PAYNE: OK. I think it's more of a Voltaire socialist France thing than Marxism. I think he does...

    BECK: Whatever.

PAYNE: Right. The bottom line, though, is there is this serious effort, I think, to not only go after the rich but to dissuade people from becoming rich. And the average person out there, Glenn, the only way the average person watching this show really can become rich is to become a successful entrepreneur, small businessperson.

BECK: Let me go this -- let me go here. I think that we are setting up a class system. If you are Ted Kennedy, you're rich, you're powerful already. This is -- this is what de Tocqueville talked about in “Democracy in America.”

PAYNE: Right. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 7/17/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: “Back In Samuel Adams' Day,” Progressives Were Called “Tyrants. A Little Later, I Think They're Also Called Slave Owners.” From the October 10, 2009, edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: In the last couple of -- in the last couple of years, I've been trying to read a different Founding Father all the time. I'm currently reading about Samuel Adams. It was a gift from the Delaware 9-12 Project, this book. And it's all dog-eared here, but I -- as I'm reading it, two words jump out at me on a speech that he gave, “ignorance and vice.”

To progressives, individuals aren't the engine that makes this country move. No, no, they are the problem. They make too many wrong choices that hurt the collective. You can't be trusted with certain freedoms and freedoms of speech. I mean, please, if you'll abuse them eventually, somebody else needs to call the shots.

That's why progressives in California are trying to ban big screen TVs because they're bad for the environment, but these stupid people just keep buying them. That's why progressives want to take over health care because those greedy doctors -- they can't be trusted with all that incentives. They'll immediately start ripping the kids' tonsils out and cutting off feet for profit.

Progressives have been fighting for decades to achieve the power to decide for you, and erase the Republicans, now they just want to call it a democracy. They've come a long, long way, bit by bit, piece by piece, they have been chipping away your individual freedoms. We call them progressives now, but back in Samuel Adams' day, they used to call them tyrants. A little later, I think they're also called slave owners -- people that encourage you to become more dependent on them, and it's working. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/20/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: “Progressive Policies Are Keeping [The Unemployed] In Slavery ... To Government, Welfare, Affirmative Action, Regulation, Control.” From the October 27, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: They'll think, maybe -- maybe Nancy thinks it's coming from Tim “The Magic Money Fairy” Geithner., because this is a possible scenario, the magic money dust comes right out of his cape as he flies over us, or maybe Nancy just thinks that money just shoots out of the butt and out of the pockets of politicians! Is that possible? There it is! Just -- money shutting out of my pants!

They have no idea it is the progressive policies that these people are cheering that contribute to making them so desperate that they are out on the street looking for free cash. That audio was from Detroit. They have had a progressive leadership in Detroit for almost half a century.

What has that leadership brought to Detroit? Seventeen percent unemployment, the highest homicide rate in the nation, 1/3 of its residents live in poverty, fewer than six in 10 graduated from high school last year. Houses are like, 5 bucks, I'm not -- I mean, I'm exaggerating, but not very much. The median price in Detroit for a home is $7,100, not thousand, $7,100.

Progressive policies are keeping these people in slavery -- slavery to government, welfare, affirmative action, regulation, control. They know better than you do. They try to control every aspect of your life, and you become more and more dependent on the big fat guy in the center, while they rot accountability, self-reliance, responsibility, dignity, the desire to make something better of yourself!

Pick yourself up! Government is not the problem, it is a cancer. They certainly are not the solution, but you keep voting people in, like Barney Frank. You want more of it, because -- oh, he wants to give you more of it. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/27/09, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: “I'm Not Saying That Obama Has An Enemies List, But I Wouldn't Put It Past Him Either.” From the June 2, 2009, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Great newspaper, by the way, if you've not read the Washington Examiner. But you were in, and you were talking about how you think the networks are actually in the tank now for Obama, but not because they love him so much. Some of them actually fear him.

DOUG McKINNON (author and former Bob Dole press secretary): Well, exactly right. You know, at the end of the day, the networks are a business. They want to make money. And there was a little-reported story -- no surprise there -- in The Hollywood Reporter talking about the fact that the network executives were seething over the fact that Barack Obama kept interrupting their evening programming with his basically monthly news conferences, which is costing them tens of millions of dollars, but there were basically petrified to raise this with the White House or the president because they don't know what he would do, and they're fearful he would come after them. And as I said in the column, I don't remember any network executive saying they were fearful of George W. Bush.

BECK: Do you remember any time in your life -- because the only one that comes to mind that was -- that had an enemies was Nixon. It seems to be that we're going -- I'm not saying that Obama has an enemies list, but I wouldn't put it past him either -- that it seems like we're repeating the Nixon administration or the beginnings of that. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/2/09]

Beck: Geithner Sounds Like He's “In The Corleone Administration.” From the March 26 edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: America is going the way of the mob. We all know that it takes power to get things done, and that's why mob bosses, like [Treasury Secretary] Tim Geithner, are looking to grab more of it. Geithner now wants the power to target any company that he even suspects might hurt other companies or pose a risk to the financial system. I wonder if talk shows will do that.

He wants to take them over -- do things like break contracts, fire people, even dissolve the company. Wow. Kind of sounds like Geithner is, you know, maybe in the Corleone administration. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/26/09]

Beck Promo Denounced Calling Dems Communist -- Which Beck Often Does. In a January 2009 promotion for his then-upcoming Fox News program, Beck denounced those who accuse Democrats of leading America toward communism: “I'm tired of the politics of left and right. It's about right and wrong. We argue back and forth -- 'If you haven't voted for the donkey, you're just a hatemonger.' The other side -- 'Oh, those donkeys trying to turn us into communist Russia.' Stop!” [Media Matters, 5/5/09] But Beck has repeatedly used his show to smear President Obama, Democrats, and their policies as communist -- and Marxist, socialist, and fascist. For instance:

    • In a “Comrade Update” segment on his February 5 program, Beck said: “Comrades, today I bring you good news from the western front. Our fearless leader of the American swine say their country will never recover if the stimulus doesn't pass quickly. Ho-ho-ho-ho! How right he is. But comrades, you must not listen to the foolish propaganda from the pigs who say that their leader Obama is simply fear-mongering. Those pigs say that others accused President Bush of doing the same thing with that old terrorism thing. What evidence was there of terrorism? OK, sure, a few bombings, some videotapes, maybe a hole in Manhattan. Please. That could have been anything. You and I both know how desperate the situation is for the Americans. Yes. And thankfully, our good friend, Comrade Pelosi does as well.” After playing a clip of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) speaking, Beck said: “hundred million people will lose their jobs every month. Yes, Comrade Pelosi. Yes, we can.” [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/5/09]
    • In a “Comrade Update” segment on his March 4, 2009, program, Beck, delivering a mock speech to communist “comrades” to the strains of the Soviet national anthem, asserted that "[t]he destruction of the West is happening." Beck also referred to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and President Obama as “Comrade Brown” and “Comrade Obama” and referred to “the good work [of] the agents that we've planted inside our great worker organization, the AFL-CIO.” [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/4/09]
    • In a “Comrade Update” segment on his February 4, 2009, program, Beck cited several policies of the Obama administration, including “setting salary caps for bailed-out company executives,” "[t]he dangers of the union card check," and “insuring the SCHIPs.” Beck then said: “I'm going to show you how these things are happening today, and they line up with some of the goings-on in history's worst socialist, fascist countries. When did socialism become a happy thing for us? These people may not be taking us on the same road that fascist dictators took the rest of the world on a long time ago, but they're using the same tactics and the same propaganda.” [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 2/4/09]

Beck Attacks Obama's Faith, Asks: " America Is Expected To Be Solidly Convinced" Obama Is A Christian? From the August 24, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: In America, religion is a personal decision. That's between you and God. People don't agree with my faith, I don't agree with other people's faiths, that's OK. Is it leading you to be a better person? That's for President Obama to decide. However, if it starts to affect the public policy, well, then we do have to examine and question. These, the last comments, are comments the vast majority of Christians can't relate to. Couple that with what he said in an interview on faith in 2004. He said, quote:

“So I draw from the Christian faith. On the other hand, I was born in Hawaii, where there's obviously a lot of Eastern influences. I lived in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world, between the ages of 6 and 10. My father was from Kenya, and although he was probably most accurately labeled an agnostic, his father was Muslim. I'd probably have to say, intellectually, I've drawn as much from Judaism as any other faith.”

Well, OK. And now we're confused why people are confused what he is? Where did he come from? We have Christian, Eastern religion influences, Kenyan, agnosticism, Judaism, and Islam. But America is expected to be solidly convinced he's a Christian? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 8/24/10]

Beck: Rev. Jim Wallis Is “Promoting The Devil's Way.” From the March 23, 2010, edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Jim Wallis, yet another spiritual adviser to the president of the United States -- a guy who believes a lot of the stuff that Jeremiah Wright does. He is a blatant redistribution of wealth advocate, a Marxist.

But I don't want you to take my word for it. We have years and years and years of words of Mr. Wallis. Let's take his words for it.

    (BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Are you then calling for the redistribution of wealth in society?

WALLIS: Absolutely, without any hesitation. That's what the gospel is all about.

    (END AUDIO CLIP)

BECK: The redistribution of wealth is what the gospel is all about.

He claims that the gospel of Jesus Christ is about a central government taking money from individuals and then distributing it the way they see fit.

Christians, you know better than that. You know better than that.

Reverend Wallis, we know who's distorting the gospel here. We know that Jesus' message was about choice. And if you're going to a church that has social justice, which means I choose, with my church, to go out and make a difference, that's a different thing than what you're preaching.

You have a responsibility, if you have extra, the Lord does say, you have a responsibility to choose to help the poor. Remember what he said about the rich people? They'll have a harder time getting into heaven than a camel going through the needle of a -- or an eye of a needle. You see, he is the arbiter of justice.

I already told you that the reverend says, quote, “Voluntary faith- based initiatives with no resources to make serious difference in poverty reduction is not adequate.” OK. So, now, there's the distortion again, a perversion of the Bible.

Are you really going to try to convince Americans that they should be forced into giving? And by the way, if you are forced, is that giving?

    Do you feel charitable on April 15th? Because I don't. I don't.

I feel charitable when I write a check for tithing, when I write a check for the poor or send somebody to school. I do feel charitable -- not on April 15th.

When did Christ ever preach about taking away our freewill?

You see -- at least my understanding here, Reverend, is that's the other side's plan. Forcing people to do the right thing, that's the devil's way. That's the Marxist, communist, socialist, progressive way. That is the kind of social justice they speak of. Not me.

Oh there's more. More on Reverend Wallis and his perversion of the gospel and what this means to you -- what's coming. Coming up. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 3/23/10, transcript via Nexis]

Beck: The “American Left” Is “Funding Terrorists Or Working With Terrorists.” From the April 1 edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: I guarantee you what you're going to learn tonight is going to open your eyes a little bit. For instance, are we the American taxpayers actually funding terror? Probably. Probably.

Are we unwittingly contributing to the destruction of our own Constitution? Yes.

You know, it's amazing to me that we have -- we're good and decent people. And we try to -- we try to be inclusive and try not to be hateful. But we're going to be remembered not as tolerant; we're going to be remembered as morons. We are taking our own country down.

I showed you this before. This is a theory that as soon as -- as soon as Tunisia happened on the 31st of January, “I said, look out, Tunisia is going to be possibly the Archduke Ferdinand moment.” Anybody remember me saying that? Did you think I was -- I mean, it sounded nuts at the time, didn't it? It sounded, like, it's Tunisia, Glenn. Relax.

And, now, look how it is spread across. And they said it would cascade and sweep the Middle East and begin to destabilize Europe and the rest of the world. “The Wall Street Journal” reported this week that, yes, indeed, radicals, Islamists, communists and socialists are working together.

In the Middle East -- yes, I know that sounds crazy but it's starting to happen. And we know that it's happening in the West and we know that it's happening here in America. There have been arrests of people who are funding terrorists or working with terrorists and they're from the American left. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 4/1/11]

Beck: Union Leaders Seek “The Destruction Of Capitalism And The Western Way Of Life.” From the April 5 edition of Glenn Beck:

BECK: Hello, comrades. Worker of the world unite. Andy Stern was right. It's not just a slogan anymore, is it?

Global unions -- unions have gone global. These are all the letters of solidarity from all over the globe. And it's the same story, country after country after country. What was the name of that book? Yes, that's right. “The Coming Insurrection.”

Country after country starting in Greece, the unions. Egypt, unions. England, unions. Wisconsin, unions.

Has anybody noticed that this is all happening? Have you seen this on other channels? Are they tying it together and saying, hey, what's going on?

No, they're all just saying that capitalism is bad. I want you to listen very carefully. If you are a member of a union, God bless you. You aren't the problem yet. But if you remain silent, if you bury your head, if you stay in the normalcy bias, you are going to be part of the problem.

Just as we said after September 11th, where are all the good Muslims? They were afraid. And they didn't say anything. And that didn't help. It made the problem worse.

The problem here at this point is there are far too many people leading the unions that are communists, socialists or revolutionary wash- outs from the 1960s whose lone goal is and always has been the destruction of capitalism and the Western way of life. And we're seeing it play out over and over and over, all over the globe. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 4/5/11]
