Right-Wing Media's Worst Islamophobic Rhetoric


The Islamophobic rhetoric spewed by right-wing media in response to the deadly attack on the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris is just the most recent in a long history of conservative anti-Islam vitriol.

Fox's Andrea Tantaros Suggested All Muslims Are Like ISIS, Said Problem Should Be Solved "With A Bullet To The Head." On the August 20 edition of Fox News' Outnumbered, co-host Andrea Tantaros suggested that all Muslims were like the terrorist group the Islamic State, and said the problem can only be solved "with a bullet to the head":

ANDREA TANTAROS: If you study the history of Islam. Our ship captains were getting murdered. The French had to tip us off. I mean these were the days of Thomas Jefferson. They've been doing the same thing. This isn't a surprise. You can't solve it with a dialogue. You can't solve it with a summit. You solve it with a bullet to the head. Fox's Eric Bolling: "Every Terrorist On American Soil Has Been A Muslim." On the June 6, 2012, edition of Fox News' The Five, host Eric Bolling advocated for police surveillance of Muslims and falsely claimed that "every terrorist on American soil has been a Muslim." [Fox News, The Five6/6/12]

Fox's Brian Kilmeade"Not Every Muslim Is An Extremist, A Terrorist, But Every Terrorist Is A Muslim." On the October 15, 2010, edition of Fox News Radio's Kilmeade & Friends, host Kilmeade defended his Fox colleague Bill O'Reilly's statement that "all terrorists are Muslim," asserting that "Not every Muslim is an extremist, a terrorist, but every terrorist is a Muslim. Fox's Greg Gutfeld: "I Would Love To Bomb Them Back To The Stoneage But They're Already There." On the February 27, 2012, edition of Fox News' The Five, co-host Greg Gutfeld described backlash over Koran burning in Afghanistan saying that President Obama only responds to Muslim backlash rather than Catholic backlash because "Catholics write letters and Muslims stab you with letter openers," adding that he would "love to bomb them back to The Stone Age, but they're already there." [Fox News, The Five2/27/12]

Fox News President Roger Ailes Will Only Donate To Muslim Charities "If They Disarm." Roger Ailes was quoted by author Zev Chafets in his 2013 biography Roger Ailes: Off Camera, as saying he would only support Muslim charities "if they disarm." [Roger Ailes: Off Camera3/18/13]

Former Fox Host Glenn Beck Compared Islam To The Antichrist. On the February 17, 2011 edition of his Fox News show, The Glenn Beck Show, Beck tied Islam to the Antichrist described in the New Testament and hosted author and self-proclaimed end-times expert Joel Richardson, who has stated that "Islam is indeed the primary vehicle that will be used by Satan to fulfill the prophecies of the Bible about the future political/religious/military system of the Antichrist that will overwhelm the entire world just prior to the second coming of Jesus Christ." [Fox News, The Glenn Beck Show, 02/17/11

Pat Robertson: Islam "At Its Core, Teaches Violence." On the July 14, 2005 edition of the Christian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club, host Pat Robertson claimed that Islam instructs its followers to commit acts of terrorism saying "it's Muslim extremists and, ladies and gentlemen, Islam, at least at its core, teaches violence. Franklin Graham: "True Islam" Impossible To Practice In U.S. Because "You Cannot Beat Your Wife [Or] Do Honor Killing." On the August 19, 2010, edition of CNN's John King USA, Franklin Graham claimed that "true Islam" could not be practiced in the United States because "you cannot beat your wife, you cannot do honor killing." Fox Contributor Cal Thomas: "Islamism Is A Virus. It Is Penetrating Every Area Of Society." On the August 14, 2013 edition of FoxNews.com's DEFCON 3, network contributor Cal Thomas warned that although Muslims "seem very peaceful," the Quran requires them "to lie to infidels like the rest of us," and said that "Islamism is a virus," that "is penetrating every area of society." Fox Contributor Bo Dietl: We Must Profile "Guys That Look Like Aba Daba Doo And Aba Daba Dah." On the August 7, 2007, edition of Fox News' Your World, Fox contributor Bo Dietl advocated for racial profiling saying "We know there's a war by fundamentalists and terrorists to kill us. So we have to be able to profile. Fox's Tom McInerney: "If You Are An 18- To 28-Year-Old Muslim Man, Then You Should Be Strip-Searched." On the January 2, 2010, edition of America's News HQ, Fox News contributor Tom McInerney said that "we have to use profiling. And I mean be very serious and harsh about the profiling.
