Watch ESPN's Mike Golic Slam Judge For Granting Leniency To Stanford Rapist Brock Turner

Golic: “Does Brock’s Father Or This Judge Understand There Was A Woman Assaulted In This?”

On the June 7 edition of his podcast Mike and Mike, ESPN host Mike Golic criticized the lenient sentence given to Brock Turner for raping an unconscious woman at Stanford University. Golic’s passionate recognition of the victim’s suffering and preferential treatment given to Brock stands in stark contrast to some media reporting on sexual assault:

MIKE GOLIC (CO-HOST): He was convicted in March of intent to commit rape of an intoxicated, unconscious person.  Penetration of an intoxicated person, and penetration of an unconscious person. You read that and you’re disgusted. Convicted. Convicted of that. And the prosecutors recommended six years in jail, and the judge Aaron Persky gave him six months. Six months. And the probation, and he has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. But six months in jail, and this quote, from the judge. “A prison sentence would have a severe of impact on him, and I think he’ll not be a danger to others.”

Oh, do you? Do you? You got that from him, huh? You got that from him, you got that from Brock, did you, that he won’t be a danger to others. and you think prison might be too harsh for him. Do you see what he did, judge? The girl was unconscious next to a dumpster! And if it wasn’t for two guys riding by on their bikes who stopped it, God knows what would have happened to this young lady who wrote an incredible, 12 page letter on what she went through, as far as this was concerned.

MIKE GREENBERG (CO-HOST): She read it in open court to him.

GOLIC: And then this judge gives me this crap about prison sentence would be a severe impact on him. Oh, really? Oh, God forbid there’s a severe impact on him. And then listen, I understand the father’s love of a child, but Brock’s father then wrote a letter talking about how, well, his 20 minutes of action --

GREENBERG: That was the one.

GOLIC: -- is going to cost him the rest of his life, and about how he can’t eat his favorite foods anymore. I used to not be able to get foods I liked in the hose because he would eat them, now he doesn’t eat well, now he doesn’t sleep well. Oh, really? Sorry Brock that you don’t sleep well after assaulting this woman. I tweeted at one point; does Brock’s father or this judge understand there was a woman assaulted in this? At all? My God, these are adults that are supposed to be leading and showing examples, and a judge giving this garbage! This was, the outrage has been unbelievable on this, and it’s not going to end any time soon either. It just blows my mind. It blows my mind at some of the things that go on.
