CNN Chyron Calls Out Eric Trump's Lie That Trump Apologized For Attacking The Khan Family

CNN: “Trump’s Son: Father Apologized To Khans (He Hasn’t)”

An on-screen graphic that was aired during the August 2 edition of CNN's At This Hour with Berman and Bolduan exposed a false statement made by Eric Trump, the son of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Eric Trump said his father had apologized to Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of an American Muslim soldier who was killed while serving in Iraq in 2004, for lashing out at them after they spoke at the Democratic National Convention. CNN corrected this claim with a chyron that read, “Trump's Son: Father Apologized To Khans (He Hasn't.)”

Cable news outlets have repeatedly been criticized for not doing enough to fact check lies from Donald Trump and his campaign. CNN's decision to use the chyron as a live fact check -- a tactic it has used previously -- earned praise from media figures.

CNN similarly fact-checked Eric Trump’s claim in the headline of their article about his false statement, titled “Eric Trump says father apologized to Khans (but he hasn't.)”
