During the December 7 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named Fox News' Bill O'Reilly the “runner-up” in his nightly “Worst Person in the World” segment for his recent statements regarding the November 17 killing of two undocumented immigrants by Pasadena, Texas, resident Joe Horn for allegedly robbing his neighbor's home. As Media Matters for America documented, on the December 5 edition of his television show, O'Reilly stated: “All right, look, these two illegal aliens are dead because of Houston's sanctuary city policies. That's why they're dead. Not Horn. Horn panicked. Horn got emotional. He probably shouldn't have done what he did. I hope he's not prosecuted. ... [T]hese guys are dead because of chaotic immigration policies.” After reading O'Reilly's comment that “these two illegal aliens are dead because of Houston's sanctuary city policies,” Olbermann added, “What, Bill? Do you think the dead men were wearing illegal alien signs?”
During the December 5 program, O'Reilly further stated that the shooting “is an immigration issue in the sense that it never should have happened because these guys never should have been in the country.” O'Reilly previously faulted “sanctuary city policies” for the deaths of nine people -- one adult and eight children -- in a March 7 fire in the Bronx. On the March 9 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, in response to a viewer email that criticized him for questioning the immigrant status of the children, O'Reilly described New York City as a “sanctuary city,” and stated: "[T]hese kids are dead because of the pro-open border people. They're dead because of them."
As Media Matters has documented, O'Reilly is frequently named during Olbermann's “Worst Person" segment.
From the December 7 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: The runner-up: Bill O, turning yet another tragedy into fodder for his illegal alien paranoia. A Houston homeowner fatally shoots two guys trying to break into -- not his house -- but his neighbor's house. The two guys are illegal immigrants. The naive conclusion from the Frank Burns of news: “These two illegal aliens are dead because of Houston's sanctuary city policy. That's why they are dead. ... [T]hese guys are dead because of chaotic immigration policies. That's why they're dead.”
What, Bill? Do you think the dead men were wearing illegal alien signs? Whether the shooter was right or wrong, they're dead because the guy shot them. Grow up, junior!
