The three major broadcast nightly news shows -- ABC’s World News Tonight, NBC’s Nightly News, and CBS’ Evening News -- all ignored former President Donald Trump’s assertion over the weekend that his mass deportation plan to remove millions of undocumented migrants would be a “bloody story.”

Trump’s remark that his mass deportation plan would be violent and “bloody” came at a rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin, on Saturday. As Media Matters previously noted:

A Media Matters review of transcripts for This Week, Face the Nation, State of the Union, Fox News Sunday, and Meet the Press found that none of the networks' flagship Sunday morning political talk shows addressed Trump's “bloody story” comment made at the Wisconsin rally.

Now, a review of Monday night’s broadcast evening news shows -- ABC's World News Tonight, NBC's Nightly News, and CBS' Evening News — has found that they also ignored Trump’s comments.

Broadcast news’ failure here to adequately inform the public about Trump’s violent and extreme rhetoric fits into a pattern in which mainstream media have been undercovering and sanitizing Trump’s mass deportation plan as well as many of his other extreme remarks. Some media figures are now calling out this media practice of "sanewashing" his remarks, saying it's obscuring the reality of his violent, nonsensical, and extremist commentary.
