JAKE TAPPER (HOST): I wanted to play a clip from an interview you did over the weekend. Let's roll some of that.
[START CLIP]
LT. GEN. MICHAEL FLYNN: I think women have to be able to choose what they, sort of, the right of choice.
[END CLIP]
TAPPER: That was when you were asked your position on abortion. You said women should be able to choose the right of choice. And then on Monday, the next day, you told Fox News that you're pro life and that the law should be challenged. Now to a lot of observers, General, and I say this with all due respect as you know, it looked as though you said what you believed and then someone might have told you you're not going to be picked if you support abortion rights, and then you changed your mind. Is that an unfair interpretation?
FLYNN: No, I think -- It's not unfair. I think that where I am, is I am for life, but I am also for the law. And I think it is very important for people to understand that going into this election, there are going to be big decisions to select the next group of Supreme Court justices. So if people want to change the law, which I am a big fan of the rule of law. It's the most, it's the biggest strategic advantage that we have. And so this election is going to decide on the supreme court of the United States for probably the next 30 or 40 years or longer. So, I love life. I have my own children, I have grandchildren, I grew up in a family of nine brothers and sisters, but at the same time this is a legal issue. From my perspective. I'm not a lawyer, I just know that that's the current law of the land, and that's the way it is.
TAPPER: But you would like a change? You want Supreme Court justices to overturn Roe v. Wade?
FLYNN: You know, I don't know, Jake. I mean, I really don't know. It's something that I would have to really give more thought to, because I, you know, it's an issue that's very complex and in the short period of time that we have, I think that what we really have to do is we really have to worry about the big national security problems that we're facing.
