After 34 guilty verdicts, Fox Business guest claims that Trump was not given an adequate opportunity to defend himself Written by Media Matters Staff Published 05/30/24 6:11 PM EDT Video file Citation From May 30, 2024, Fox Business coverage of Trump's criminal trial FRANCEY HAKES (GUEST): I think it starts from the very beginning, Liz, and that is with the indictment itself. Because the indictment itself did not give the president notice, and the Constitution requires that the defendant be given notice of the charges that he is being tried for so that he can properly prepare a defense. And he wasn't given notice of the charges until after his attorneys had already made their closing arguments. So there was nothing fair about the indictment or the course of the trial with respect to the normal due process protections that the Constitution provides a defendant so that he and attorneys can properly prepare a defense.
