MARTHA MACCALLUM (HOST): I don't know if Donald Trump has any choice but to let Trump be Trump, because it seems to be what happens regardless. And sometimes it's an advantage, and sometimes it's not, Rich.
RICH LOWRY: Yeah, well I agree with Huckabee to this extent. Of course, you're right, Trump is not going to show up tomorrow and all of the sudden be some courtly gentleman. He's not going to change his message, nor should he, but he does have to be on script and more disciplined. And he collapsed about an eight point Hillary lead over the course of the month just by staying on script, and that was an amazing thing. And prior to last week's debate, the race was almost tied. And then you saw sort of in real time during that debate, the wheels come off, and they continued to come off the rest of the week. And now Hillary is a step or two ahead again. So Trump, he can't change who he is. That's not even realistic, but he does need to go back to the pivoted Trump who reads from the teleprompter and doesn't court unnecessary controversies.
MACCALLUM: But you can't do that in a debate, and that's part of the problem for him perhaps of this format. But Marjorie, in many ways, we'll know at the end of this cycle, maybe losing the first one could turn out to be the best thing that happened to him.
