Fox & Friends Handles Trump's First Post-Birth Certificate Appearance By Complaining About Groupon

Today, Donald Trump appeared on Fox & Friends for the first time since President Obama released his long-form birth certificate. Rather than ask Trump about this embarrassment, the only time the co-hosts mentioned the birther issue occurred when co-host Steve Doocy stated Color of Change criticized Trump because “of the fact that” Trump “wanted to see the President's birth certificate, and we have and that's put to rest.” Doocy's follow-up? Whining that Groupon pulled its advertising from Trump's Celebrity Apprentice after “some lefty blog Think Progress complained about you.”

Trump, who appeared on Fox & Friends in his regular Monday segment, responded to jabs made at his expense at the White House correspondents dinner light-heartedly, stating that Obama “was reasonable and fair,” but that he had “no idea the entire evening would be about Donald Trump.”

Watch:

Rather than going into why the entire evening was, in fact, about Donald Trump or why Color of Change was accusing Trump of race-baiting, Doocy steered the segment away from birther madness by attacking Groupon for dropping its advertisement on The Apprentice's website and pointing fingers at, you guessed it, “some lefty blog.” Doocy is referring to Think Progress, who called for internet based coupon company Groupon to cease advertisements on NBC's website for The Apprentice. It's worth mentioning that, while Groupon ads did appear on the Apprentice website, the company was not a sponsor of the television program. From Groupon's statement:

Here's the thing: Groupon has never been a sponsor of The Apprentice on TV or on the web. We invest heavily in online advertising through networks that place ads on a rolling basis, meaning that we know one will appear on NBC.com but not specifically which page. We know that some advertising appeared on the Apprentice home page a few weeks ago.

Enough consumers have contacted us to warrant ensuring that we don't place ads on the Apprentice homepage in the future. It's the same reason we don't run deals on guns or abortion...this isn't a political statement, it's avoiding intentionally upsetting a segment of our customers.

At no point did Doocy or any of the co-hosts take the time to ask Trump to respond to the fact that he made a complete fool of himself by embracing discredited birther claims that were further annihilated after the president released the long-form birth certificate they had been demanding. After all, this was the first time Trump appeared on his regular Monday segment since Obama released the birth certificate. But, I guess asking Trump about this embarrassment would have been too much to ask of Fox & Friends' shameless weekly campaign segment with a potential Republican presidential candidate.
