Fox & Friends fearmongers about a supposed migrant invasion from a holding location in Mexico

On Tuesday, Fox & Friends reporter Carley Shimkus fearmongered about the release of migrants from a holding city in Mexico by saying they soon may be “invading the United States” while a graphic referred to their location as a “prison city.”

Some refer to Tapachula as an “open-air prison” because migrants are not allowed to leave the border city until they are processed, and they have to remain in awful conditions.

Shimkus also cited the Center for Immigration Studies, an anti-immigrant hate group, as the source for her report that “70,000 migrants may soon be invading the United States at our southern border.”

Shimkus did not explain what the term “prison city” means.

CARLEY SHIMKUS (REPORTER): Seventy thousand migrants may soon be invading the United States at our southern border. According to the CIS, Mexico has been blocking the migrants' forward movement under an agreement with the Biden administration to suppress border numbers, but they could get released from Tapachula soon. There have been more than 2 million border apprehensions since President Biden took office a year ago.
