Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown credited his employment with Fox News for motivating him to run for office again.
During a July 31 appearance on Fox News Radio's Kilmeade & Friends, Brown said of working as a Fox News contributor: “Certainly I loved doing what I was doing, and I think as a result of me being on Fox and being up on the issues, and listening to the false rhetoric out of the administration, really charged me up to get involved again.”
The affection appears to be mutual between Fox News and Brown, as host Brian Kilmeade told Brown, “We miss having you on, having you as a contributor.”
Brown took advantage of Kilmeade's softball interview to repeatedly plug his website and call for campaign volunteers and donations.
“What's the answer?” Brown asked about problems facing the country. “The answer is to take over the Senate, is to have people get on ScottBrown.com and help donate and help volunteer and let's send a message to the president because he's not up for reelection. But his number one foot soldiers are, folks, so let's get involved. ”
He added later: “If people want to help, I'm telling you, it's time, folks. ScottBrown.com, and let's go take back our country.”
Fox News hired Brown in 2013 after previously boosting his Massachusetts Senate campaign with fawning coverage (during one segment, Fox hosts played with a Scott Brown action figure). The network terminated his contract this March when he officially announced his run for office in New Hampshire.
Fox News has helped numerous former employees during their runs for office. Rick Santorum said during his presidential campaign that his former job with Fox had “been big” and “helped folks remember who I am ... It's a great platform, being able to talk about the current issues of the day.”
From the July 31 edition of Fox News Radio's Kilmeade & Friends:
KILMEADE: We miss having you on, having you as a contributor but I know you're working hard to get that seat in the Senate. Now listen, you're not the insurgent guy in his red truck anymore. How's this different from your Massachusetts run?
BROWN: Well actually it's a green truck and it's still going. I'm in it right now heading up to Manchester and I'll tell you what. The energy level is off the charts. People are tired of business as usual. We have a senator here who votes 99-point whatever with the president and his failed policies on immigration, supports him 100 percent in favor of the DREAM Act. And what the president's doing with a lot of the DREAM Act kids and the porous borders, et cetera, the economy, energy.
So it's been a lot of fun. Really enjoy it. Certainly I loved doing what I was doing, and I think as a result of me being on Fox and being up on the issues, and listening to the false rhetoric out of the administration, really charged me up to get involved again.
