The Gateway Pundit calls for Democrats pursuing impeachment to be hanged

On December 2, far-right blog The Gateway Pundit called for Democrats pursuing impeachment to be hanged. The blog has been promoted by President Donald Trump, and far-right figures associated with Gateway Pundit have been to the White House.

Joe Hoft’s piece tries to draw a comparison between the conspirators behind President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination -- which he calls a “ Democrat coup” -- and those supposedly involved in a  “2016 Democrat coup to take out Trump,” complaining that none of the latter have been hanged. He wrote:

It’s time that we Americans stand and call this what it is. This is another Democrat attempt to remove a President through any means necessary. It is seditious and treasonous. The Democrats in the 1860’s that were in on the Lincoln assassination were killed in their escape or hanged high.

We are entering a new phase when it’s time to hold all seditious and treasonous Democrats who actively act to remove President Trump from office to the same fate!

It’s time for investigations and indictments of these Deep State actors who are attempting this coup of our government. Representatives and Senators in on it should not be exonerated. Hang them if that is what the law requires. Americans want justice! 

Jim Hoft, the founder of Gateway Pundit and Joe's brother, tweeted the article:

The White House gave the Gateway Pundit official White House correspondent credentials in 2017, even though the blog has a long history of pushing inflammatory, bigoted, and flat-out false information. Jim Hoft was invited to the White House in 2019 as part of Trump’s social media summit; Hoft also visited the White House in 2017. Trump has also promoted The Gateway Pundit or its content on Twitter at least 15 times. Donald Trump Jr. has shared content from the site at least 33 times, and Eric Trump has done so at least 8 times.
