This week on his Fox News program, Glenn Beck is laying out “The Plan,” a series of proposals he has developed with the assistance of conservative think tanks for “slashing the budget,” which he claims is necessary for the United States “to survive.”
Today's proposals were:
- Beck called for the elimination of all foreign aid, which Beck said he is “tired of.” He suggested that we should instead benefit the world by “teach[ing] morals, values, ethics. According to Beck, Obama has proposed spending $49 billion in foreign aid this year.
- Beck called for ending all U.S. spending on overseas defense (bringing troops home from Japan, Europe, and the rest of the world" and ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which he said would save a total of $250 billion.
- Beck also discussed eliminating the Marine One helicopter, and the C-17 transport. The Pentagon announced the cancellation of the Marine One program almost a year ago.
Beck also stated that his preferred defense policy would be developed from these guiding principles:
- “Mind our own business,”
- “the enemy of my enemy is not my friend,”
- follow our values and principles, i.e., stop getting “in bed with dictators,”
- “when we fight - we fight to win,” and
- no nation building.
