This week on his Fox News program, Glenn Beck is laying out “The Plan,” a series of proposals he has developed with the assistance of conservative think tanks for “slashing the budget,” which he claims is necessary for the United States “to survive.”
On the final day of “The Plan,” Beck:
- Proposed eliminating farm subsidizes, and suggested eliminating the Department of Agriculture, because "common sense would tell you [it] shouldn't be there"
- Suggested cutting the Department of Housing and Urban Development, because it “waste[s] $65 billion” on things like “public housing” that are “enslaving” Americans, and is “killing charity.”
- Suggested cutting from the Department of Commerce, asking “do you even know what they do?” He added that Commerce is “home to unneeded programs that subsidize businesses and fund local development.”
The rest of Beck's program was devoted to how to "sell it," including prototype ads on ending the school lunch program and cutting defense spending. Beck suggested that wealthy entrepreneurs should fund the ads to “protect the system that made them wealthy.”
