Last year, Glenn Beck freaked out over a 2008 speech in which then-candidate Barack Obama called himself “a proud citizen of the United States and a fellow citizen of the world.” It wasn't a controversial statement. President Reagan had said the same thing.
Nevertheless, Beck said about Obama's speech: “I'm sorry, I left my citizen of the world ID in my other pants. I hope they don't deport me now from the planet. There's no such thing as citizen of the world. We're Americans. We're humans. We're on planet Earth, but we're Americans.”
So I was a bit surprised to watch today when Beck said: “Decide for yourself whether the perfect storm is here, whether it even exists, if the rain has begun to fall, and if this is a storm unlike the world has seen in a long, long time, if ever. You -- as a citizen not only of this country, but of all mankind -- have a responsibility, and you have an important role to play. If you're a teacher or a preacher, you tell the truth.” [emphasis added]
Chalk it up to another example of Beck hoping that no one listening to his current ravings remembers what he used to rant about.
