Google will likely get the most notice of any April Fool's Day gag today after changing its name to Topeka.
Why Topeka? As Google points out in a link to this CNN story, it is a joke based on the decision in early March by the mayor of that Kansas town to change its name, at least for a month, to Google.
Mayor Bill Bunten “believes so firmly that younger residents of Kansas' capital city will benefit from faster Internet connections that he wants Topeka -- which he describes as a place of many lakes and the site of a burgeoning market for animal-food research -- to change its name for a month,” the CNN story said at the time. “In a formal proclamation Monday, Bunten announced his city will be known as 'Google' -- Google, Kansas.”
What's next? Facebook, Arkansas?
