“Gunny” Bob: Murtha, Kerry, Clinton, Reid “would be rejoicing” if terror plot had succeeded

On his radio show, “Gunny” Bob Newman claimed that if the alleged terrorist plot to blow up airliners en route to the United States from Britain “had been successful, they'd have been even happier, the liberals would have.” Later in the show, Newman named “people like [Rep.] John Murtha [D-PA], [Sen.] John Kerry [D-MA], [Sen.] Hillary Clinton [D-NY], [Senate Democratic Leader] Harry Reid [D-NV], people like that” as examples of “liberals” who would have been happy to see the attacks succeed.

On the August 10 broadcast of 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show, host “Gunny” Bob Newman, discussing British officials' recent thwarting of an alleged terrorist plot to blow up airliners en route to the United States, claimed that “if the attacks had been successful, they'd have been even happier, the liberals would have.”

Later in the show, when challenged by a caller on this comment, Newman stated that, while “not all” liberals would be happy, "[t]here are some extraordinarily unethical people who are ruled by their politics. And some of them are people like [Rep.] John Murtha [D-PA], [Sen.] John Kerry [D-MA], [Sen.] Hillary Clinton [D-NY], [Senate Democratic Leader] Harry Reid [D-NV], people like that." According to Newman, "[A]lthough they wouldn't tell you to your face that, oh, -- if this plot were carried out, let's say 3,000 Americans died in all 10 aircraft -- they would say, 'Oh, it's a national tragedy.' When they were in the back room and the doors were closed, they would be rejoicing because of their politics."

From the August 10 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show:

NEWMAN: It amazes me that in our uber-political world how politics can overwhelm even fabulous news like we received last night. It's been about 24 hours now -- right here on The Gunny Bob Show on 850 KOA -- that the Brits -- and now we found out the Brits, some help from the Pakistanis and the United States, but especially, you know, the Brits were kind of leading the charge here. We were able to -- the Brits were able to prevent the downing of a minimum of 10 commercial airliners flying somewhere over the Atlantic, and the liberals have gone absolutely bananas. Harry Reid and John Kerry, the rest of the crew saying -- chastising president Bush. Incredible. Of course, if the attacks had been successful they'd have been even happier, the liberals would have. But that's the world we live in today.

[...]

NEWMAN: And, as expected, of course, the Democrats are now attacking the Republicans because they say the Republicans are exploiting this latest success. Exploiting it, hmm. Of course, now, had the Bush administration failed and had none of this all come together with the Brits and the Pakistanis and the 10 aircraft at a minimum had been blown up, oh, the Democrats would have been mad about that as well. That's the nature of these people on the left that we're dealing with. Let's be honest about this: Many -- not all, but many -- of your far-lefters, the radical liberals, the extremists, want America to lose more people in the war on terror. Why do they want that? Because that would make -- they believe that would make more Americans mad and, therefore, more likely to vote for the extremists on the left. Oh, they'll never tell you that to your face because they're cowards. But you know it's what they want. It's just that they don't have the guts -- the intestinal fortitude, the cojones -- to do anything about -- to say it to your face.

[...]

CALLER: But I just had two quick comments, if I could.

NEWMAN: Yeah, go ahead.

CALLER: The first one is that you were saying that liberals would have been happy if 3,000 lives --

NEWMAN: Some

CALLER: -- would have been lost, you know --

NEWMAN: Some, not all. Because I know some liberals who are very mad.

CALLER: -- in plane crashes. Well, I just think that to say that any politicians or the president or, you know, if Republicans were happy because, you know, World Trade Centers were bombed, or Democrats would have been happy if planes would have went down over the Atlantic -- I really don't think that our government and president is that shallow that they would seek personal gain for loss of life. You know what I'm saying?

NEWMAN: I couldn't agree more.

CALLER: So, you know, I just wanted to disagree with you on that comment. I just don't think any --

NEWMAN: OK, now wait. Maybe I misunderstood you then, because I was just agreeing with you. I don't think that the president would be happy at all if some -- if these plots were actually carried out to fruition.

CALLER: Or liberals, if they would have been happy if the planes --

NEWMAN: Now, wait. Now, some are. Not all though. And I want to be very clear on that. That's why I was -- when I said it earlier, I said either some or many, but I made it clear it was not -- not all liberals would be happy. But let's face this: There are some extraordinarily unethical people who are ruled by their politics. And some of them are people like John Murtha, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, people like that. And, although they wouldn't tell you to your face that, oh, if this plot was carried out, let's say 3,000 Americans died, they knocked down all 10 aircraft, they would say, “Oh, it's a national tragedy.” When they were in the back room and the doors were closed, they would be rejoicing because of their politics. They are controlled by their politics instead of them controlling their politics. Because they would see that as being another wedge into power in 2008. And I truly believe that, [caller].

CALLER: Well, I really hope that our politicians really aren't that shallow and that heartless.

NEWMAN: Some of them are.
