On June 18, the Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. Predictably, some conservative media figures are not taking the news well.
According to CNN, Chief Justice John Roberts’ majority opinion “emphasizes that the administration failed to provide an adequate reason to justify ending the DACA program.” The decision also leaves room for the Trump administration to challenge DACA again, but it “will have to provide a better explanation grounded in policy.”
DACA has long been a target of right-wing media criticism, and this is the second time this week the conservatives have been disappointed over the Supreme Court’s decision; on Monday, the court ruled that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act also applies to LGBTQ Americans.
Immediately after the court’s DACA decision was announced, right-wing media figures took to Twitter to criticize it, calling the justices “our SCOTUS overlords” and the court “a joke,” and writing that the country “is turning into the land of the undocumented and mentally challenged.”
