LAURA INGRAHAM (HOST): So, Pat, as I said, you really wrote this playbook so many years ago. And I remember my parents were out volunteering for you in Connecticut. Dinesh and I, and so many of us were hoping that you would, again, unseat the Bushes and the Doles and -- OK, Bob Dole, patriot, supported Trump, though. But you knew that this was the menu of issues that, if packaged properly, would really connect with the American heartland and impress people, in a good way, and Trump did it, and he did it in a very unconventional way. Not exactly the way you would have done it, of course, but nevertheless those issues worked, and worked well.
PAT BUCHANAN: Well indeed they did, and one reason they worked -- several, one is, course Donald is a tremendous salesman, he' has that big plane, he's a persona, very larger than life. But secondly, the things we warned about -- we just asked for a border fence and the San Diego corridor, and then along the border with Mexico, and then you said “look, these trade deals will deindustrialize this country. They'll cost us millions of manufacturing jobs and factories,” and then you said said “if you get involved in all these wars and keep this up, you're going to lose all the benefits of the Cold War.” And the point is that the Bushes, and Obamas, and Clintons went ahead and pursued those policies, and the results were what Donald Trump ran against so brilliantly in 2016.
