Laura Loomer bragged that Trump promised to endorse her for Congress and tried to hire her last year

Loomer: “He told me, he's like, I want you to work for me. I want you to work for my campaign.”

During a previously unreported speech, Laura Loomer bragged that former President Donald Trump “hired me on the spot” to work on his campaign in 2023 before news about the attempted hiring leaked. The far-right conspiracy theorist also claimed Trump told her he believes she actually “won” her 2022 election against Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) — she lost by roughly seven percentage points — and offered to endorse her if she ran again.

Loomer has a long history of pushing conspiracy theories and bigoted rhetoric, including about Vice President Kamala Harris. (For more on the self-described “pro-white nationalism” commentator’s remarks, see here.) Her close ties to Trump have become a significant campaign issue, especially after she flew on his plane to Pennsylvania and New York.

Loomer is also connected to numerous other Republicans, including JD Vance and the National Republican Senatorial Committee. This weekend, she is scheduled to appear as a “special guest” at a fundraiser for the Nevada County Republican Party in California.

Prior to the fallout over her trips with Trump, Loomer gave a September 3 speech to the Villagers for Trump 47, a pro-Trump group based in The Villages, Florida. During that talk, she discussed events referenced in a New York Times article from April 2023 in which the publication reported that Trump had unsuccessfully tried to hire Loomer. At the time, Loomer declined “to comment on private conversations that I had with the president.”

In the September 3 speech, Loomer said she met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump told her, “I really do believe that you won your election against Daniel Webster, and if you run again, I will endorse you.” (Loomer has claimed that her election was stolen from her due to “fraud.”) Loomer then said that she declined to run again because she felt helping elect him president was more important.

Loomer said that Trump was so “impressed” by her support that he “hired me on the spot and he told me, he's like, I want you to work for me.” She added that a “New York Times hit piece” had come out about that hiring and “I ended up not working with him, but I still decided to dedicate all of my time this election season to helping President Trump get elected.”

From a September 3, 2024, speech by Laura Loomer

LAURA LOOMER: He invited me to have a meeting with him at Mar-A-Lago shortly after. And long story short, I ended up having a meeting with President Trump, to which he told me, “I really do believe that you won your election against Daniel Webster, and if you run again, I will endorse you.” And he gave me the option. He said, what do you want to do? Do you want to run for Congress again, because I will endorse you. And I told him, I said, well— and I've never told the story before. So I figured it's fitting now that I'm back in The Villages. And I said, well, you know, President Trump, it's a great honor and would have loved to have your endorsement when I ran against Webster in 2022. But I think it's more important that you get back into office because we're not going to have a country if you do not get reelected. We are not going to even have a Congress that is worthy of having representatives in it because they're going to jail President Trump, and what do you think they're going to do to all the other America First representatives? We're going to be living in a communist country. And so I looked him in the eyes and I said I would much rather sit this election season out and do everything I can to help you get elected, sir.

And so I think he was just really impressed by that because he hired me on the spot and he told me, he's like, I want you to work for me. I want you to work for my campaign. Well, long story short, everybody saw what happened with that New York Times hit piece that came out about me. And one thing led to another, and I ended up not working with him, but I still decided to dedicate all of my time this election season to helping President Trump get elected, because I truly believe he is the most important person on the ballot this election season.

During the speech, Loomer also characteristically attacked Harris with toxic rhetoric, falsely claiming: “She thinks she's the female Obama, except she's not Black. And so. Right? I mean, let's be honest. No matter how many accents she wants to have when she's speaking in places like Detroit and Philadelphia, she ain't Black, alright?”
