Boston city officials have asked The Boston Globe, Boston Herald and other newspapers to remove their newsracks from areas of the city that might be the site of celebrations if the Boston Celtics win the NBA Finals.
The Celtics, currently down two games to one to the Los Angeles Lakers, last won the title just two years ago.
“North Station, home of TD Garden, Faneuil Hall, and Kenmore Square are areas of particular concern,” The Globe writes, quoting Officer James Kenneally as saying: “They get tossed around and things of that nature.”
The Globe added: “After the Celtics won the title in 2008, more than two dozen people -- some of whom toppled newspaper boxes -- were arrested when celebrations turned rowdy.”
Robert Powers, a Globe spokesman, said the newspaper "will cooperate with public safety officials and remove vending machines where necessary.''
