Following a September 11 Colorado Media Matters item, The Gazette of Colorado Springs corrected its inaccurate account of 5th District Republican congressional candidate Doug Lamborn's reasons for not participating in a series of debates proposed by Lamborn's Democratic opponent, Jay Fawcett.
In a September 9 article, The Gazette reported, “Fawcett proposed a series of debates weeks ago, but Lamborn, a state senator, was busy running in a six-way GOP primary.”
In a September 13 correction, The Gazette acknowledged that -- as Colorado Media Matters pointed out -- the article “should have stated” that Fawcett proposed the debates “six days after Lamborn won a six-way GOP primary.”
In an August 16 article, The Gazette reported that “Fawcett issued a news release listing six groups to host debates and five specific dates on which they would be held. But one organization said a Fawcett representative had canceled the proposed event, and Lamborn's campaign said it had not received the challenge from Fawcett.”
The Gazette's September 13 correction:
An article Saturday on Metro 5 should have stated that Democratic congressional candidate Jay Fawcett proposed a series of debates to Republican nominee Doug Lamborn six days after Lamborn won a six-way GOP primary.
