BRENNAN SUEN: This is not happening in a vacuum. You can't discuss someone's death or an individual case of anti-LGBTQ violence without connecting it to this greater trend. Because it's not -- it's not just this one time thing. An 86 percent increase, and an increase every single year, it's terrifying, and it's a terrifying place to be in this community. And if you're just any average, everyday person watching the coverage of this, you might just think, OK, this person was killed. They were queer or trans, and that's it. Not, wow, this is actually a huge problem. A lot more people than just this one person are being impacted by this.
