Since the NFL announced Tuesday that the 2014 Super Bowl will be played at the new Giants and Jets stadium in New Jersey, I have had to endure countless media outlets wrongly call it a 'New York Super Bowl.'
Yes, I am a bit of a New Jersey snob, having lived here since I was seven years old. Still, as we strive to point out media inaccuracies, this could be the biggest of them all.
Endless stories on the announcement have been wrongly noting where the stadium is and where the big game will be.
Thanks Rachel Sklar at Mediaite who rightly pointed out such a stupid media mistake: “So what is all of this 'New York' stuff? Last I checked, New Yorkers were only too happy to draw the line between the two states. (The phrase ”Bridge & Tunnel" was not coined to flatter and include.) I get that the Giants and the Jets make their home across the river, but you still need to cross the river to get there. Into - say it with me - a totally different state."
I guess it should not surprise me as the Giants and Jets still refuse to admit where they play, hence the NY on both teams' helmets. Well, at least the Devils and Nets give us some credit.
Until the Nets move to Brooklyn, that is.
