ALI VELSHI (CO-HOST): So, the United States, most definitely, this is just simple math, has a trade surplus with Canada. Let me put it a different way: Canada buys more things from the United States than the United States buys from Canada to the tune of $12.5 billion. 

STEPHANIE RUHLE (CO-HOST):  And this is not being sassy or biased, this is -- 

VELSHI: Just a fact. 

RUHLE: This is a fact. This is how you calculate a trade deficit, a trade surplus, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Mr. President.

VELSHI: I want to just put the numbers up while we talk about this once again just so people can understand this. Because I hate the idea that we have to fact-check as opposed to debate good or bad trade practices. But look, there may be validity in the fact that free trade agreements have put a lot of workers out of work. I think we haven't been honest about that over the last few decades, but the bottom line is Mexico and Canada are our biggest trading partners. And these numbers on the screen belie the size of the trading relationship between Canada and the United States and the important things that we get from each other.
