On the December 8 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann, host Keith Olbermann again crowned Fox News host Bill O'Reilly the “Worst Person in the World,” this time in recognition of O'Reilly's December 2 promise (documented by Media Matters for America) to “bring horror into the world of” those he claims are waging a “war” on Christmas. Olbermann advised O'Reilly: “Bill, just remember, to bring horror into this world, all you have to do is open your mouth.”
Olbermann also awarded O'Reilly “runner-up” honors for proclaiming himself "[t]he only television journalist" who “didn't put Abu Ghraib pictures” on his or her program (as the weblog ThinkProgress noted). In mock surprise, Olbermann asked of O'Reilly: “Wait, wait -- you think you're a television journalist?”
On the November 30 edition of Countdown, Olbermann awarded all three “Worst Person in the World” nominee slots to O'Reilly.
From the December 8 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: Runner-up: Bill O'Reilly -- here we go again -- proudly reminded his audience that he, quote, “didn't put Abu Ghraib pictures on this broadcast. The only television journalist not to do so.” Wait, wait -- you think you're a television journalist? But the winner: Yes, him again! On radio, getting hysterical about this anti-Christmas nonsense. He said he would get the, quote, “anti-Christian forces in this country” trying to “diminish and denigrate the holiday.” Here's the good part: “I'm going to use all the power that I have on radio and television to bring horror into the world of people who are trying to do that.” Bring horror, he said. Bill, just remember, to bring horror into this world, all you have to do is open your mouth. Bill O'Reilly, today's “Worst Person in the World.”
