An August 24 New York Post article misleadingly claimed that Reid plans “to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire”:

Senate Republicans launched a broadside yesterday against incumbent Democrats thinking of siding with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's plan to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire.That would equal a $3 trillion tax hike, says the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

The committee hailed Democrats from conservative states who have abandoned Reid in his efforts to end the tax cuts. “More and more Democrats are . . . finally acknowledging that raising taxes . . . is the last thing we ought to be doing,” said committee spokesman Brian Walsh.

But Reid plans to extend Bush-era tax cuts for middle-class Americans

Reid spokesman confirmed to WSJ: Reid “intends to take a bill [to extend middle-class tax cuts] to the floor in September.” In a July 26 article, the Wall Street Journal confirmed through a spokesman that Reid “intends to take a bill [to extend middle-class tax cuts] to the floor in September”:

Democrats are aiming to push legislation extending Bush-era middle-class tax cuts ahead of midterm elections. But with Republicans and several Democrats advocating a similar extension for high-earners, too, prospects for passage before November balloting appear uncertain.
