GRANT STINCHFIELD (HOST): After the horrific shooting at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California, earlier this month, some residents are beginning to wake up to the realization that they need to be prepared for the worst. So they've began to arm themselves. VC Defense Firearms is the only gun store in Thousand Oaks, California, and after the shooting in their city, they saw a flood of people coming in looking to purchase a firearm for self protection. I am joined now by the owner of VC Defense, John Colln. John, welcome to the program.
JOHN VON COLLN (OWNER, VC DEFENSE FIREARMS): Thank you for having me, Grant.
STINCHFIELD: So I was just up the street from you over the weekend. I was up in the Summerland area, Santa Barbara area and my heart goes out to everybody in Thousand Oaks, this was a horrible tragedy.
VON COLLN: Been a tough week, for sure.
STINCHFIELD: It sure has. You know what gives me hope, though, is hearing this story about people coming into your store. A bartender at a hotel that I was at, he learned that I worked for the NRA and he said, “Look, good people have a right to defend themselves, and killers will go out and kill no matter what.” That was a guy in the middle of California. It gave me great faith that there are gun owners and common sense, reasonable people in California that understand the reality of the situation.
