Last week, when Matt Drudge promoted a report from CNS News that quoted attacks on Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan from hateful bigot Rabbi Yehuda Levin - a man who has blamed gays for 9/11 Katrina, and the Haiti earthquake - I declared that the right-wing media had “officially hit the bottom of the barrel” in search of attacks on Elena Kagan.
Once again, conservative media figures have proven that you should never underestimate their ability to find a new low.
Under the headline, “SHOCKING: Kagan's Princeton Thesis Cited German Socialist Who Endorsed Nazis,” conservative blogger Pam Geller is currently hosting the following image on her website:
Yes, that is Elena Kagan - who is Jewish - photoshopped to look like she is wearing Nazi uniform.
Geller goes on to claim Kagan is “an admirer of an architect of German national socialism, Nazism” and that she has a “love of socialism of the nazi variety.” In order to buttress this outlandish, offensive smear, Geller excerpts an embarrassingly inept attack piece from Human Events which claims Kagan “cited the theories of an influential German Marxist who notoriously switched allegiances to Nazism.” At no point do they bother providing even a small modicum of evidence that Kagan actually endorsed these theories in her thesis.
This latest attack echoes conservatives' earlier attempts to smear Kagan as a socialist based on her thesis, which was simply an exploration of historical questions about socialism.
Once again, because it bears repeating: Pam Geller promoted a photoshopped image of Elena Kagan - who is Jewish - wearing a Nazi uniform, based on the fact that she mentioned, but did not endorse, a socialist who became Nazi.
If you want to see what an actual endorsement of the works of a Nazi looks like, here's a reminder:
