MSNBC removed a guest appearance by Donald Trump ally Roger Stone from its broadcast of With All Due Respect, which airs on both Bloomberg TV and MSNBC. A spokesperson for the network confirmed that Stone, who was banned from CNN because of racist and sexist attacks against its staff, has also been banned from MSNBC.
With All Due Respect, which is hosted by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, first airs on Bloomberg TV at 5 p.m. and is then replayed on MSNBC at 6 p.m.
Stone appeared on the April 4 Bloomberg TV version at approximately 5:30 p.m. Halperin introduced Stone by noting he's advised Trump and promoting his books The Clintons' War on Women and Jeb! and the Bush Crime Family. During the interview, Stone discussed the Trump campaign, the controversy over the nominating process at the Republican National Convention, and his calls for convention protests.
On MSNBC, however, Steve Kornacki interrupted the show's rebroadcast at approximately 6:30 p.m. with “breaking news” that “Republican presidential contender John Kasich is speaking right now in Huntington, New York.” Kasich did not appear to make any notable remarks during his stump speech. MSNBC returned to With All Due Respect after the Stone segment was finished.
MSNBC also removed Heilemann stating in the segment leading up to Stone's appearance that “Roger Stone is joining us next.”
Here is a comparison of what aired on Bloomberg TV and MSNBC at 5:32 and 6:32, respectively:
A spokesperson for MSNBC confirmed to Media Matters that Stone was removed from its airing of With All Due Respect and has been banned from the network. Bloomberg declined to comment to Media Matters about the topic.
As Media Matters documented, Stone has written disgusting tweets targeting figures at media organizations including CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. He's called various media personalities an “arrogant know-it-all negro,” a “stupid negro,” a “fat negro,” a “professional negro,” a “Mandingo,” “quota hires,” “senile,” and “the muff-diver.”
CNN banned Stone from appearing on its airwaves as a result of his tweets. Stone is still a regular guest on Fox News and Fox Business.
During a February 26 appearance on The Alex Jones Show, Stone claimed that “MSNBC, under pressure from Media Matters ... banned me.” MSNBC declined to comment to Media Matters on the matter at the time.
Unlike other cable networks, MSNBC has not frequently hosted Stone this year. He last appeared on the network in September 2015, and he appeared on the network several times last year, according to an iQ media and Nexis search.
