Top Trump Adviser Roger Stone Hates Mormons

Longtime Donald Trump adviser Roger Stone has repeatedly smeared and attacked Mormons and complained that they’re trying to take over the Republican Party and religiously convert people. The Republican presidential nominee has had a well-documented problem convincing Mormons to vote for him.

Stone was asked in a recent Vox interview if “there has been a scramble to unify the party with the evangelical Republicans or the Mormon Republicans.” Stone replied that “there are different types of conservatives” and Republicans “can afford to have different brands of conservatism.”

Stone is one of the last people anyone should count on for unifying Mormon Republicans, who have been in an “all-out revolt” against Trump’s candidacy due to his remarks about engaging in sexual assault and his religious bigotry.

Stone has attacked and mocked Mitt Romney for his Mormon religion (“Mitt the Mormon,” "Holy Underwear") and suggested the 2012 Republican nominee is a polygamist. He also complained that Mormons are taking over the Republican Party and said, “I don't want to be a Mormon”; when Romney lost the election, Stone concluded: “Well at least now we don't have to all become mormons.”

Stone has a history of making racist commentary, including calling African-Americans “stupid negro,” “fat negro,” “professional negro,” “mandingo,” and “arrogant know-it-all negro.” He’s referred to himself as a “nigga” who “got Nixon tatted on him.”

Another Trump adviser, Fox News contributor Robert Jeffress, wrote in a book that Mormon church founder Joseph Smith is one of the “servants of Satan.” Jeffress, one of Trump’s main religious campaign surrogates, also called Mormonism a “cult.”
