Davis Criticizes Rand Paul For Not Having “Guts” To Show Up On Meet the Press

By Solange Uwimana

Mark Davis, the WBAP talk radio host who regularly steps in for Limbaugh, was the fill-in today while Limbaugh takes a “much-deserved” break to get in a round -- several, no doubt -- of golf, although Limbaugh routinely criticizes President Obama for his golf rounds. Limbaugh is slated to come back on Wednesday, so tomorrow's guest host is scheduled to be Walter Williams*.

On today's show, Davis kicked things off by claiming there is “media bias” in the way the media have been covering President Obama's response to the oil spill, alleging that if it were President Bush in office, “the articles of impeachment would have been drawn up by now” for “insufficient attention” to the spill. He speculated about what “the hateful Keith Olbermann” would have said about it, asking, “Can you imagine?” He added, “And I'm sure Kanye would have probably reminded us of what President Bush thinks of black people.” He concluded: “You know this would be happening. ... And many of you on the left know that I'm right about this.” Davis, like his “hero” Rand Paul, defended BP, saying that we don't really know whether the oil spill is BP's fault, and we should be trying to find out who's really responsible so we “can scapegoat with some manner of accuracy.” Echoing Paul, he said, “Until then, it's just a really bad thing that happened,” adding, “Sometimes, things just happen.” Davis later called for continuing offshore drilling, saying, “We like oil. We love us some fossil fuels and there's nothing, nothing wrong with that.”

Davis spent most of the rest of the show drumming Paul, whom he “prays” will be reelected, for not having the “guts” to keep his interview on NBC's Meet the Press, saying that Paul “needs to have the courage of his convictions and not bail on Meet the Press on Friday just 'cause it was gonna get tough under questioning from David Gregory.” Davis said that while Paul's view on the Civil Rights Act was “supportable,” “to agree to, and then bail, fairly or not, gives the image of somebody who just didn't want to be bothered explaining his somewhat complicated view.” He went on to fume: “If you don't have the guts to show up in a hostile room at Meet the Press -- I mean, you think things aren't gonna get tough for you in the Senate? I mean, so, come on!” He also criticized Sarah Palin, who “in an otherwise lovely appearance” came to Paul's defense by “weaving this all-too-familiar scenario ... of the gotcha question.” He warned conservative presidential candidates to “gut up” and said that "[a]nybody whom we decide to get really excited about for president in 2012 had better learn that same thing."
