Limbaugh attacked poll of U.S. troops funded by peace studies center: “a bunch of long-haired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking, FM peace-types that have an agenda”

Rush Limbaugh instructed his listeners to disregard Zogby International poll results -- showing that a large majority of U.S. troops in Iraq think the United States should withdraw from that country within a year -- because the poll was funded by the Le Moyne College Center for Peace and Global Studies. Limbaugh stated: "[A]nytime an organization has the word 'peace' in it, throw it out. It's just a bunch of long-haired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking, FM peace-types that have an agenda."

On March 16, nationally syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh instructed his listeners to disregard Zogby International poll results -- showing that a large majority of U.S. troops in Iraq think the United States should withdraw from that country within a year -- because the poll was funded by the Le Moyne College Center for Peace and Global Studies -- an organization that “has the word 'peace' in it.”

Limbaugh told his audience: "[A]nytime an organization has the word 'peace' in it, throw it out. It's just a bunch of long-haired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking, FM peace-types that have an agenda."

The “face-to-face” poll, conducted January 18-February 14, found that “72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year.” According to Zogby, the poll showed that:

29% of the respondents, serving in various branches of the armed forces, said the U.S. should leave Iraq “immediately,” while another 22% said they should leave in the next six months. Another 21% said troops should be out between six and 12 months, while 23% said they should stay “as long as they are needed.”

From the March 16 broadcast of The Rush Limbaugh Show:

LIMBAUGH: I went and I dug up the story. I found a version of it here in The Christian Science Monitor.

A large majority of U.S. troops think that the U.S. should withdraw completely from Iraq within a year. Stars and Stripes reports that a poll of 944 U.S. troops in Iraq conducted by Zogby found that only 23 percent of service members felt the U.S. should stay as long as needed. Although the poll conducted in January and February was carried out without Pentagon approval, Zogby said they did have the approval of commanders in Iraq. Of the 72 percent, 22 percent said troops should leave within the next six months; 29 percent said they should withdraw immediately; 21 percent said the U.S. military presence should end within a year, and five percent said, “We don't know.” The poll was funded by Le Moyne College's Center for Peace and Global Studies.

And when I -- anytime an organization has the word “peace” in it, throw it out. It's just a bunch of long-haired, maggot-infested, dope-smoking, FM peace-types that have an agenda.

“But what about Zogby, Rush? What about Zogby?” I'm just telling you what I think. I'm a manly guy. I stand by it.
