Rush Limbaugh opened his show by leveling attacks at Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. After stating that he didn't “want to spend a whole lot of time commenting on the Elena Kagan hearings cause they're a sham,” Rush proceeded to call her “a rubber stamp, hardcore leftist” who's only there “to reinterpret [the Constitution] for Obama.”
Rush continued by invoking fear about the Obama administration's approach to oil drilling, claiming that it is “stifling” the expansion of energy that the United States needs to grow. He also baselessly claimed that the “energy policy of this regime is going to cost the people of the Gulf Coast far more than the [oil] spill is going to cost them.”
Apparently, Rush found it difficult not to discuss the Kagan hearing; he continued his relentless attacks on Kagan, throwing in some debunked falsehoods for good measure -- that she compared the National Rifle Association to the KKK, that she doesn't like the military, and that she thinks it's OK to ban books. Rush stated that Kagan is “dangerous because she's every bit as loyal, liberal, ideological as Jeremiah Wright” and President Obama, as well as a "full-fledged far-left ideologue who believes the Constitution's unjust and immoral." Rush also attempted to depict Kagan as a judicial activist who “would rewrite the Constitution if given the chance” just like she is “rewriting her own history.”
Additionally, Rush spent some time praising Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) for getting “as close to” calling Kagan a liar as any Republican “is probably going to get.”
Here are some highlights from today's show:
Limbaugh: “Extended unemployment benefits do nothing but incentivize people not to look for work”
Limbaugh repeats false claim that Elena Kagan “suggested it'd be OK to ban books”
Limbaugh persists with myth that Kagan compared the NRA to the KKK
Limbaugh: “We're the nice guys and they're the bad guys. It really is no more complicated than that”
