On June 14, NorthEast Radio Watch (a Rochester, NY-based website) reported that Boston's WRKO AM 680 radio pulled the June 11 edition of The Rush Limbaugh Show off the air after Limbaugh -- who was, at the time, providing live coverage of the funeral service of former President Ronald Reagan -- “began commenting on how Bill Clinton appeared to be nodding off in the pews.” According to NorthEast Radio Watch, “WRKO listeners were abruptly switched to Fox News coverage of the funeral.”
Media Matters for America reported on June 14 that, on the day of Reagan's funeral, Limbaugh -- as well as radio host Michael Savage and Internet gossip Matt Drudge -- made the improbable suggestion that both former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton simultaneously fell asleep during Reagan's funeral; Limbaugh and Drudge both posted to their websites a still image of the Clintons with their eyelids down.
Also on June 11, right-wing radio hosts Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly offered their comments on the issue:
From The Sean Hannity Show:
HANNITY: I -- I know many of you want me to talk about the Clintons. I'm getting hammered with e-mails. Look, the Clintons are sleeping, the Clintons are sleeping, the Clint -- it -- it -- you know what? Maybe -- I don't know what it is about these people, they can't keep themselves out of anything, and I just -- I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it. I'm just not, because it just -- it just figures. Does it really surprise you?
From The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly:
O'REILLY: I don't think President Clinton could have spoken anyway if he was on the list because he was asleep. [laughter] Did you see the shot? [laughter] Ah, you're gonna see -- you'll see that shot so much over the weekend. Fred [Radio Factor caller], he was racked out. But maybe if he was talking he would have awakened in time for the speech.
