Perhaps eager to log some more airtime, the once-serious Tucker Carlson drove straight into looneyville last night while discussing the new, "draconian" and "un-American" Arizona immigration law. In fact, Carlson sped right past lots of Fox News' own right-wing pundits, as he eagerly defended the new law.
What Carlson did was pull a Breitbart. He claimed that after Arizona Republicans passed the country's most stringent, anti-immigration bill, and one that will almost certainly lead to racial profiling, Carlson announced it was Democrats who were whipping up racial tensions. How? By criticizing the anti-immigration law.
See, in today's Right Wing World, if minorities criticize divisive initiatives and policies, it's the minorities who are playing the race card. (Or Democrats on their behalf.)
So if I understand the logic correctly, that would mean that back during the 1960's, it was civil rights leaders who were guilty of 'playing the race card' because they were the ones fighting against divisive initiatives and agitating for change and equality.
Gotcha.
But Carlson wasn't done yet. Later in the show when Dick Morris appeared, the two were quickly joined in heated agreement that, “Barack Obama is basically playing race politics” and that “Obama is preying upon the anxieties of Hispanic voters.”
Because honestly, who knows more about the hopes and concerns of Hispanic voters in America than Tucker Carlson and Dick Morris?
UPDATED: I almost forgot: When Democrats now urge minorities to vote, that's denounced by `wingers as playing the race card.
